this was the original message, but i have some more and dont want to start more threads......

Spoiler:
I've been wondering about this for a while; at what time of the day do we have the most users online? Right now (12am here in ger) its pretty quiet around here, but later in the day the amount of users grows quite a bit.

Can someone supply me with details about the activity on dakka?

so:

- what does exalting do actually? where can you see the amount of exalts on a thread? what does it do on posts?

- lego, is it possible to make it possible to "subscribe" to gallery images? often, people ask questiones, but never find the answer, because they dont know it was posted and forget to check......

Seems to be busiest between 10 and 12 GMT, after 12 GMT it gets much quieter.

Weirdly though that seems to be when you think it's quietest...

about 21.00 GMTish is the peak each day. There is not a big difference between peak and trough, day of the week is much more significant (weekdays being much busier).

Exalting a thread gives it points which put it in the top threads list under 'thread tools' in the navigation. Exalting a thread also puts it in your exalted thread list (kind of like a more filtered 'subscribe' option).

Exalting a post puts it in a list of top posts which is used (manually) to promote individual posts to the home page.

Gallery image subscriptions are a planned feature but it will be some time until it is in place.

Lego, Would it be possible to do a 'An image in your gallery has been commented on' notification? either an e-mail, or a flashing notification like the 'New PMs' one would be nice..

An overhaul is planned for the gallery commenting system as well. It is a massive project and due to complexity with the tagging system it is ticking along very slowly. A notification is possible, but probably not email.
