Hi chaps!

Here are some shots of my latest commission work, a DKoK Commissar done in classic grey.
I really love the sculpt quality of forgeworld and he was no exception.
The grey basecoat was done with two different greys using an airbrush, rest was standard brush work.

Comments and critics are welcome as usual!

Very nice paint job, derd0m - unfortunately, the top left and bottom right pictures highlight a bend in the Commissar's sword.

The highlights on the coat are really bad, it looks like he got sprayed with white chalk (in universe).

I wouldn't say they're bad. Not the typical highlighting, but it looks good to me and perhaps even a bit more realistic in the context of dirt, dust etc staining his coat from many days in the field.

My winter coat is an authentic WWII German officer's greatcoat, and the wear on my coat looks a lot like that. (except it's not white because the leather was dyed a different base colour than the Commissar's considerably lighter-coloured coat)

That paint job looks great!

Thanks for the kind replies, chaps! Stuff like this keeps me motivated.

Yup, this little resin thingy drives me crazy. I tried to get it straight with hot water two times but it always bends back after a while - although the bending was way worse at the beginning.

Ye well, I think it's a matter of taste. I tried a zenithal highlight effect from above, the hat and upper parts of the cloak came out pretty nice imho, only the little splatters on the bottom were not planned.
I will try to give him another light coat of the darker grey to get rid of the grey spots.

I like it!! Looks like your airbrush may need a good clean. Very Fine work though.

That looks really nice, realistic I would say.
I also like how he's standing on the rock, letting everyone know he's in-charge....

Thanks, You're right about the airbrush, time to give it another bath in cleaner.

Thanks! Yup, I went for a realistic approach as it suits the DKoK very good because they have the most "true scale" look of all imperial guard minis.

Thanks!

At the moment I'm working on the second Commissar, be prepared for an update soonish!
