I know this is probably an easy question and that i have probably just missed the section but can anyone tell me what happens if someone directs and attack at your warcaster take the damage?

or can you only aim the attack at the entire battlegroup?

Attacks are on a per-model basis. The warcaster is targetted and attacked as an individual model. So if someone attacks, say, Stryker, they target his DEF, roll against his ARM, and do damage to his track.

And stuff.

nope. this is not 40k. you do not "aim" units at other "units". its model v model. you do not target "the battlegroup". you target "the ironclad", or "stryker". if he has LOS to your caster he can charge him (and make attacks, assuming he is in meleerange) or he can attempt to shoot him (assuming he has the range to do so).

you activate a model/unit*. you get to move them, if you wish, and then each model gets an action, they may target the warcaster with ranged/melee attacks. they roll MAT+2D6 against DEF, hoping to equal it, or beat it, and if they do, they roll either POW (ranged) or P+S (melee) + 2D6 (3D6 if its a charge, or 4D6if its a charge from aweapon master unit) and subtract the targetd ARM. he takes that much damage as a result. easy!

*units activate together, and must do the same *order* together, but are resolved individually.

Ah, i see now, you just have to keep the warcaster out of range buy blocking it with the battlegroup

thanks for the advice

If you want them to do nothing you can. Some casters/locks are absolute monsters that need to be on the front lines (eButcher, pButcher, eThagrosh, Terminus, pMorghul, Kromac). If you keep them hidden behind Jacks/Beasts/whatever they could be subject to slam damage from a canny opponent. Even the back line ones shouldn't be hidden as they may require LOS for their spells etc.

Don't be afraid to go balls out in this game. Warmahordes rewards aggressive and clever play. If you just hide your Caster you're not gonna get a lot out of the game IMO.

It doesn't have to be your battlegroup doing the blocking, anything is fine units, solo's, as well as any Warmachines/Warbeasts not part of your battlegroup.
