I will be visiting that store tomorrow. I'll probably drop in at around 11:30-12 and staying until 4 or so (they close at 6). I think tomorrow is introduction to the hobby day, so I plan on having 500pt, 750, and 1k lists available, but can easily field 1500-2k (I don't know if they have a table limit or not). If you're looking to stop by, hit me up in a PM on here. Haven't had more than a game or two in about 2 years.

Drove to three different stores today looking for a game with no luck (GW Sterling, Huzzah, and Game Parlor). it's what brought me to this forum. I'll start checking around first from now on before wandering around looking for pick-ups....

Game Parlor has scheduled nights for Warhammer / 40k.

I've never tried to get a game in at Huzzah Hobbies, but from what I heard they had a rather active wargaming community. Of course this is second hand...

I'm not a really big fan of GW Fair Oaks, as they only have two tables and they're usually fairly well full. This leads to a lot of "team games" which are not my forte', but to each their own.

If you want to be the most likely to get a game in, keep going to GW Springfield. They have a ton of tables, and the community is pretty friendly there. Yeah, it's another 20 minutes down 66 & 495, but it beats standing around all day trying to get a game.

"I have concluded through careful empirical analysis and much thought that somebody is looking out for me, keeping track of what I think about things, forgiving me when I do less than I ought, giving me strength to shoot for more than I think I am capable of. I believe they know everything that I do and think, and they still love me. And I’ve concluded, after careful consideration, that this person keeping score is me." -Adam Savage

Since I'm only 2 miles from Fair oaks I game there pretty regularly. I was there tonight buying paint. Love the place except for a staff member or two who are a little pushy but it comes with working for gw (my two cents I'll keep on topic). Either way I'm working on some ogres right now to have a fantasy army to field and if you guys want some pick up games at fair oaks let me know I'll be there (assuming I'm not working)

Heh Necessity. If you stopped by and saw a guy with a thin green hooded jacket or a light blue long sleeved shirt, that was me in the GW store... I think I was sporting a pair of Oakleys as well... Anyway, the experience was... All right, but like Etna said, it tended toward team games. I wanted to get a quick small game going and ended up doing a 3k vs.. Whatever I and another DE player put on the table (probably about 2300). Lasted about 4 hours and about 2 turns while we had to constantly look up rules that a kid we played against seemed to forget. I think he thought by me saying: I haven't gamed in almost two years... He assumed I didn't know the rules and was going to try and get 1 over on us.

Anyway, that was a rant. Overall it was pretty fun. Necessity, the Huzzah crew has a forum you can hit up, if you'd like me to share the link. From what I -understand- they are more into Warmahordes and Malifaux, but there are certainly people who are willing to grab a game of 40k. Game Parlor, I'm not TOO thrilled about visiting, but the players and staff there are friendly. I think you need to provide your own terrain, which isn't a big problem if you have the time to make it. I really don't know why I don't like Game Parlor that much. Maybe it's something in the back of my mind.

As far as Springfield GW, I'll have to check that out sometime soon. Maybe next weekend when I am in town again.

Back to the Fair Oaks GW: I too only live about 2 miles from there (right behind the Safeway), and figured that since I had a couple hours to spare, I'd hit it up. Probably won't hit up the store on a Sunday again any time soon, but maybe another night might be worth it.

I've played at the Springfield store for the past 3 years. It's okay, but tends to attract mostly the younger crowd. They do have a nifty deal on Friday nights called Veteran's Night, which is supposed to be for the older players. But, unfortunately, the same younger players show up for that as well. They have 4-5 tables that are all nice and a good staff.

BTW, Games Parlor Woodbridge is out of business since last year.

Hey I actually live like 10 min from the GW store in Springfield, can get there no problem! Only thing is, I've only just started building an army and haven't done much playing yet, definate newb. But I'm just throwing it out there in case someone is dtying to get a game in. Oh and far as the "younger crowd" goes, well, I'm pushing 30 so no need to worry about that. Anyway, drop me a line!

Hi everyone,

I live in Fairfax and am looking to get back into some wargaming now that I have a career and can afford it again, lol.

I play Ultramarines, Orks, and a little Imperial guard in 40k. I live right near Fair Oaks Mall- I would be interested in meetup games, tournaments, and even help setting up a league in the area.

Feel free to PM me or send a reply and we can get something set up.

For anyone willing to drop a little farther south, the ironFist League is based in and around Woodbride. Our forum is at www.ironfistleague.com. We try to keep tabs on and post any events in the NOVA area. Our regular aming nigh is Tuesday at Brittany's Sports Bar (both stores down in WB closed). there is also a section on th forum to arrange games outside of the regular gaming night.

And if you're interested in tourneys, we're in the middl of our 'Road to the NOVA Invitational' series of tourneys. Next one is 15 July at Brittany's and then 21 July at the Bowie Battle Bunker. Check it out.

Yep, we game in a sports bar. They have three rooms, one for the bar, one for pool tables an a third for overflow. On Tuesday nigh we share th overflow room with the Texas Hold 'em players. Or the Mahjong ladies if you get there early enough. And oddly enough, we have actually had people walk through, check it out, and then show up at a later date with their toys tht the dug out and dusted off. Who'd a thunk it? And of course, food, beer and other alcoholic /non-alcholic beverages, etc.

Only drawbacks are no impluse purchases of gaming stuff, so if you need new dice or whatever, get it ahead of time and we have to carry in our own terrain. But we've been doing the terrain thing for years as the two gaming stores that used to be in the area did not provide terrain either.

Woodbridge is a bit far for me, but Chantilly or Tyson's area (Victory/Compleat Strategist) are great. Is anyone organizing a local group besides IFL?

Well stocked with figures, not so well with players. I have a decent table and terrain and also live close to two shops that have 40k nights. Complete strategist and victory comics. PM me so we can exchange emails or numbers. That's works best for me as I dont check the boards as much as I should. I'm feeming for a game and still have not gotten my feet dirty with 6th and my bikes are thirsty for war. Hopefully we can line something up.
