With sixth edition not to far away, I got to thinking about digging my Vanilla marines out for their impending codex (y'know they'll be among the first.) Then I got to thinking about bagels. After that tangent, I started thinking about what I wanted out of the new book. After I got a bagel, of course.

So I thought to myself, "Me (as I often refer to myself) maybe I should throw this up to get itemized lists from folks to see what every marine player wants from the new codex. GW would be absolutely brain numb not to have people reading this forum, whether they admit it or not. This is a really good bagel."

So how about it? An itemized list of what we, the majority model consumer wants. Overlap is good, and is encouraged. It puts numbers behind ideas. So me first!

1. Benefits for playing a theme. Ultramarines get X if all models in the army are Ultramarine, or generic models. Same goes for Salamanders, Crimson Fists, Silver Skulls etc. Just some benefit for not putting Tellion in every list ever.

2. Decent tactical marines. Ultramarines are supposed to be the best of the best marines, yet the cost more and are less effective than a naked grey hunter. They should either be improved, have their cost dropped significantly, or have the option for improvement. How about a 5 point cost per model to raise a stat by 1. I'm tired of being remorseful for spending the money on all these useless tac marines.

3.Stormravens. This is prolly going to happen anyway, but I really want one (or three) and putting it on the list doesn't hurt.

4. Honor Guard to do something. Any reason at all to take these instead of assault terminators. I'm not dogging assault terminators. I just want there to be a reason for this unit/retinue. The models are sick, but are just outshined entirely by the function of the terminators.

5. Dreadnoughts as a heavy, OR elite slot. Give us a little list flexibility, please.

6. Good psychic powers. Null zone is nice, but the rest of the list is really lackluster in the current meta.

7. Troop reassignments for generic captains. Give us the opportunity to take something off the wall as a troops choice, for a set number of points. That would instantly make the codex the most fun, competitive, and popular in the game. You've already done it with bike squads. It's not that much of a stretch.

I'm sure I'll come up with more, but it's your turn. What do you want from the Ultramarines?

ALWAYS ANGRY! ALL THE TIME!

6th edition rumors already give power weapons a 5++ save. Honor guard will be more viable then. Maybe make relic blades give you a 4++.

I want librarians to have the option to take a stormshield in power armor.

I want predators to be able to move and fire.

I want whirlwinds to have a typhoon launcher option.

I want to be able to take apothecaries as upgrade characters for tac marine squads.

I want tac marine squads to have 2 attacks base.

Cheaper bikers would be nice. They cost about as much as a termi right now and arn't near as scary. That or a slight boost to the survivability of bikers. T5 is nice but possible an armor boost from the bike or a charge like calvary has. I see no reason why a biker would move slower on the charge than on the movement but it could be demated both ways because move 12' charge 12' could easily be over powered/abused.
Special character apothicaries that can be attached to squads would be awsome too.

Well, a good deal of your points are already covered. Dreadnoughts can be taken as Heavy and Elite if you take a MotF, which is more or less that unit's reason for being. The psychic powers are generally pretty decent. Vortex is pretty damn cool, Avenger is average, Gate is nice, and Force Dome is really useful. There is going to be some kind of flyer/gunship, but rumor says it won't be the Stormraven.

I will agree on the rest of your points though. I like captains unlocking different units as troops, and would like to see that keep going. I also wish Honor Guard weren't such chumps. Buffing theme lists would be cool, but I'm curious how to enforce that. Finally, to make tactical Marines better, just give them a close combat weapon already.

Seriously.

Give Tactical Marines back their close combat weapon.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?
