I can't seem to get anything out of skinks, but a lot of people field them. So I thought I would start a topic for people to discuss some good strategies for skinks. Not skink skirmishers, just normal skinks with kroxigors.

Here's my problem with them: They are not as powerful as saurus, and the skinks kill the combat res for the whole group. They move faster but it's kinda small. They seem to be half flanker, half tanker, but not good enough in either.

I could see doing something like this:

32 Skinks (flag bearer, musician)
4 Kroxigors
1 Skink Chief (BSB, additional hand weapon, light armor, Skavenpelt Banner)

For leadership rerolls, combat res, and extra frenzy bonus.

But nobody ever does...

Honestly i only use skirmishers to redirect and poison stuff.
I know many swera by the cohorts but the unclarity of their rules is too much of a bother for me.

I do love my skirmishers tho, lately thei've started taking a larger and larger percentage of my army points to the point of my army looking like MSU with some blocks mixed in

EDIT: Ok strategies. Take many small units use them to outdeploy the enemy, redirect dangerous units (especially deathstars) and have the rest of your army fight the rest of his.
Try and get in range of warmachines or just flank low armor units and pepper, overtime the damage adds up and can be quite effective.

chameleon skinks will be your best friends if you truly wish to use skinks; I play with one lizardmen player that never enters a battle without them, since they can take out nearly everything. I've always considered skinks as a ranged entity, with the kroxigors as their sort of bodyguard model, to prevent low leadership models from charging (I think it causes terror...?) You can't turn a skink unit into a "deathstar" unit, because they are too weak. With skirmishers and javelins, then you will be able to close into range (since you can march and fire, and I think javelins are quick-to-fire) against war machines and weak- armored ranged units. Like HoverBoy said, small units and lots of poison shots. I'd still take a large amount of saurus warriors. For 1000 points, I'd suggest at least 2 units of 25 saurus, unless you really want something like a stegadon.

You can use them to stack up fleeing charges as well, and stop your opponent from going anywhere. Not fun at all for your opponent, but lists of 100+ skinks are brutally effective as long as they are played right.
