Subject: Deffrolla and Ramming bonus
|

Land Raider Pilot on Cruise Control

It's late and I'm fairly tired, but I have a question regarding the Deffrolla.
If I ram a vehicle, does the ramming bonus (+1 for Tank, +1 for every 3 inches, etc) get added to the D6 Str. 10 hits?
If not, does the Ram get resolved separately from the D6 Str. 10 hits?
For instance:
1. A Deffrolla equipped BW Rams the side of a vehicle sporting AV12 from 9 inches away. Then I roll a 5 for penetration. I now have 1 penetrating hit. I now roll a D6 and get a 4, giving me 4 str. 10 hits. I then roll all 4 and get 3+ on all of them. I now have a total of 5 Penetrating hits.
OR
2. Would I simply apply the ramming bonus to the D6 Str. 10 hits as well, giving me an auto penetrating hit no matter what?
I've always played it where I just roll a D6 to pen on the Str. 10 hits, but realized I may be doing something wrong. But an automatic Str. 15 hit each time seems OP, so I'm assuming that I am doing it correct to begin with.
Thanks for the help.

I do believe that you are doing it correctly, with the d6 str10 replacing the default ram strength.

That would be incorrect.
Order of operations when ramming with a deff rolla:
1. Pivot, move battlewagon until in contact with a vehicle
2. If the vehicle is a skimmer it may attempt to dodge
2a. If the dodge was successful the battlewagon stops and does nothing
3. If the vehicle is a walker, it may attempt death or glory
3a. If DoG was successful, the walker takes 2d6 S10 hits and the battlewagon does nothing else
3b. If DoG was failed, the walker takes 2d6 S10 hits and the ram on its rear facing
4. If no DoG or doge happened, the vehicle takes 1d6 S10 hits
5. Resolve ram as usual (AV14+tank+distance)
6. If this hit explodes the vehicle, continue moving.
Have a look at the question in the ork faq regarding walkers atempting DoG against deff rollas. It's obvious that the rolla happens before the ram, as a successful DoG can prevent the ram, but not the deff rolla hits.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.

I belive you have to declare the distance the vehicle will travel before you move it?

No, that is for Tank Shocking - for Ramming the vehicle must attempt to move as fast as it possibly can.

Rams are always executed at full speed.

No, not quite. You ATTEMPT to mvoe as far (aka as fast, as the two are equivalent at this point) as you can, but things may intervene
So it is possible for a fast vehicle to disembark a unit, then declare a ram. It can normally travel 18 / 24", but cannot go Flat Out because a unit disembarked (or embarked, same difference)
It is only the *ACTUAL* speed of the vehicle that counts.

The rulebook actually says that the ram is executed "at the highest speed [the vehicle] is capable of".
Clarifying doesn't hurt though

"capable" and "possible" are equivalent terms here - as you are not capable of moving flat out if you disembark / embark a unit.
It was mainly to forestall any attempt to claim that declaring a ram means you are always hit on "6"s in CC, even if you were surrounding by enemy vehicles and didnt actually move anywhere...

Thanks for the help.
That is because P. 6 tells us that "No modifier may raise any characteristic above 10"
With P. 37 Giving us the one exception on number of attacks, attacks can go above 10.
So Str 10 is the max in that stat.
