hi all please help.

i managed to get a flank charge on a bell/furnace, was quite happy slaying rats when queries arose.

first; i assume when start taking models off they will be from the furthest point of the rear from the combat, being the other side of the bell/furnace.

second; as combat went on less of my models were able to attack due to no enemy models, now this normally isn't a problem but as the bell/furnace was stretched across several ranks can my unengaged models BRIDGE THE GAP to target the bell/furnace.

third; my opponent had characters in the unit as well but do these count as part of the unit for shrinking ranks rule, and in essence teleport from one side of the bell/furnace to the other.

fourth; when all rats are killed do i then move into contact with the bell/furnace or is my unit free from combat at that point

separate query, if a character refuses a challenge from a flanking unit where does he go, if at back of unit do you take casualties from around him, what happens when he is last model can i then attack him normally

No, you take casualties from the rear rank, as normal.

Only models in base contact can fight, plus supporting attacks (again based on base contact)

They are part of the unit, so are treated as rank and file members when shrinking the unit - and can Make Way! into combat with you

Fourth - you are moved into contact with the bell / furnace

He moves to a non-fighting rank.

thanks for that nosferatu. so the bell/furnace doesn't count for incomplete rank rule at the bottom of pg49 brb

Unless of course it's the Grey Seer, who scampers higher onto the bell (aka doesn't go anywhere).
