Hi guys, I probably won't personally be taking photo's until i buy a decent camera and will be using my cousin to take some 'good' shotys of my models I've painted, but last time we had trouble taking photo's of any model that was predominantly red? the colour just looked flat and washed into a blob can anyone give me some hints/tips/tricks on ways to photograph red models? you can include appertures and technical terms that i personally don't understand yet but i'll pass the info on and see what we can achieve
thanks everyone I appreciate your help!

What were you doing before to take a picture of it? Perhaps use a more neutral backdrop like grey or black and see how it goes. Edit: Looked in your gallery, if talking about the Exorcists they seem alright.

Try using a black tshirt as a back-drop and make sure you have at least one lamp off to the side.

If it still doesn't work maybe try making a sort of display board for it. I initially had trouble getting pictures of white until I took one on the display board and they seemed to come out a little clearer.

Lol.
White is one of those 'colours' that will often give cameras coniptions.
Usually by fooling the autofocus because of insufficient contrast.
Good lighting (NOT overhead) and strong contrast backgrounds are the best way to deal with them.

Use film. Digital cameras just aren't up to it yet, even the nice ones.
Other than that, you can always edit the pictures post-process (by using photoshop or the gimp, or something), to saturate the colors / bump the contrast.

Film? isn't that some ancient form of recording pict steals? i may try it if i can find some in a museum! :-) I actually have a really nice old Cannon slr at home I can try!
I think maybe a longer exposure and some post image touch ups could work, bring on Feb when i'm taking the new pics.

White, blue and red will be giving cameras issues for years to come. Especially with digital and the increased UV and (near)IR sensitivities of the sensors. They were problems for film for as many decades (which is why you could buy specific films to maximise results with these colours.).
Blue is one of those colours that never photographs the same way - or prints the same way for example - digital or film makes no difference.
Minute variations in light levels and angles between camera and subject and the UV reflectivity of it don't help
