We all know that there are numerous other human civilizations out there from Cathay to Estalia, but besides for a few snippets in books and a few dogs of war, I was curious to know what parts of history they would base them on? Some of them are more likely than others but you never know. Here are my thoughts, feel free to correct me/input your own opinions

Estalia (aka Spain/Portugal): With Pirazzo's lost legion, it seems obvious that Estalia is based off of the sea exploring Spain/Portugal with Conquistadors abound. Some people think they have an inquisition
Tilea (aka Italy): Another land with DoW background. With gothic plate armored mercenaries and pikes, they're based off of the late medieval/renaissance italy complete with probably tons of in fighting
Araby (aka typical fantasy Middle East): Referenced numerously and has their own Warmaster Army. Easily can see the connection with Arabian Nights and The Crusades. Some people think they may have Janissaries but I do not know whether Araby is more rooted in Crusader Caliphates compared to Ottoman/Other Empires. Maybe a mix?
Cathay (aka China): Not much is known besides they have fireworks, darn good Heaven Wizards, and a possible Dragon as an emperor. I am not terribly good at Chinese history so I have no idea which particular Dynasty would fit
Nippon (aka Japan): They have ninjas, and thats all I know. Only two really big Japanese conflicts I know about are the Gempei Wars and the Sengoku Jidai, cant tell which would be more likely or if theres another era of japan more suitable. Guess it depends whether they have gunpowder or not
Indus (aka India): No idea there, dont know if theres any info of them. Quite a lot of different indian civilizations they could draw upon
Albion (aka Ireland/ancient Britain): The Warhammerverse has been there before. Full of nasty things and naked people (I think), based off of ye old celtic mythology/civilizations
Amazons: They're Amazons, not much new

Ahh drat I forgot two

Kislev (aka Russia/Poland/Baltic states): Already a faction at one time but very small, bizarre mix of medieval slavs with polish winged hussars. Strange that they do not have firearms
Norse (Aka Vikings): One of the more famous chaos induced human tribes, fan books have them teetering between another flavor of Chaos, to traditional Scandinavian Dark Age/Medieval armies. Doubt they'll ever get expanded though by GW beyond chaos marauders

Yea, thats why I made this topic though, different fanbooks have different takes on each army. Just wondering what people thought here

Cathey, Araby, and Kislev are the most likely candidates for a new human faction/force of order.

There is enough fluff scattered throughout the various army books to give a fairly good idea of what they would have.

Kislev would be a light cavelry based army with ice magic and bears.

Cathey would have hordes of cheap troops backed up by Monstrous Infantry(Terracotta statues and Ogres), Rocket artillery, and powerful Heavens mages. Possably dragons as well.

Araby would have semi-powerful unarmored infantry with good leadership, good magic, and cavelry. Not to mention monsters like Elephants or Djiin.

There was a thread a while back (maybe not even this site now that I think of it) of a great sculpter doing an empire army converted all to cathay theme. His characters where 100% original scults based on "Battle of Red Cliff" and/or Dynasty Warriors (chinese movie and game respectively) and the whole thread was awe-inspiring. Cathay would definitely be the most interesting to see.

btw, Norse is just Chaos Marauders, right?

The Norse worship chaos, but they arn't as corrupted as the Marauder tribes further north.

Yea, thats what I mentioned about when it came to the fanbooks. In fact one fanbook contains 2 army lists, the southern Norse (more viking, less chaos) and the northern (less viking, more chaos)

Araby and Cathay make up really large portions of the map and are referenced quite frequently. A whole continent has no warhammering. Like all the races decided to fight for the same turf and left an area the equal size all alone.

Araby is without a doubt our most likely here

Kislev and the others seem like they'd be contingents like that old rumor stated, even if it doesn't look like it's gonna happen (If anyone from GW reads this, it should happen)

The second most likely is either Kislev or Albion given that GW has paid them a lot of attention, Cathay may be bigger than either but like Nippon and Ind it's so far away from the Old World

For those of us old enough to remember, GW did indeed release a very limited range of Nippon troops, including rocket artillery and temple dogs, and some pre-slotta Amazons who were originally viewed as opposition to the Slann, back before they became fat floating magic behemoths...

And in the old days, the hobgoblins used to be Mongol/Chinese themed too!

Johnny-crass - I think not... Mine are pre-slotta circa 1983 ish, older than a lot of people on here!!! Check the third citadel compendium on solegend.com if you need more convincing... If I remember right, an Amazon with bolt pistol appears on the cover art.

And anyway, I know the difference, I have Escher gangers too, young un!

Just checked... Actually the SECOND Citadel Compendium, 1984. Range was C30 Amazons; they got quite a small run, not many of them about. My memory sometimes gets a little hazy, a long time ago! I've been playing Warhammer since about 6 weeks after the release of the 1st edition which I still have...

Me too.

Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee.

I think you would have a lot of shiny spears rather then a bunch of shiny swords. Seeing as the spear was more dominate in Eastern warfare. And that katanas would be Nippons weapon. I think samuri had a bow then a thrusting spear then used their sword as a last resort.

Still would be cool to see an asian army. Have to say Cathay would be perfered to Nippon.
