Sorry, this may be a little late, but you can check out Chicagoland Games: Dice Dojo. It's up north at Broadway and Bryn Mawr. The selection is pretty typical FLGS, though they do have tons of boardgames. Their 40k, WFB and WM/Hordes communites are quite active however and they've got plenty of tables and terrain.

The real unique destination in the Chicago area is Games Plus. It's out of the city in Mt. Prospect, but it's the best and biggest gaming store in Illinois, possibly the whole midwest. They have a massive stock of wargaming products and tons of stuff from small and boutique miniatures companies that you've probably only seen online.

i did get up to dice dojo and was happy with the store. and i will be sending them some samples of my painting and hopefully ill get some contracts. (I just started my own painting company)
