I'm looking to add some Tyranid Venomthropes into my swarm, but the official models are atrocious. I have a conversion idea brewing and I wanted to know if anyone had any input.

Components:

1x Tyranid Lictor head.
2x Sets of Tyranid Venomthrope Lash Whip arms.
1x Tyranid Ravener.

The idea is to model the Lictor head onto the Ravener body, replace the upper and middle arms with the Venomthrope Lash Whip arms and use one set of the smallest Ravener Scything Talons in the bottom arm slots. When I draw it out on paper, it looks really cool; definitely more menacing than the current build. Any thoughts/comments?

That would be a very expensive conversion I think. It sounds like an interesting kitbash, just quite pricey. If you do it be sure to post pics.

Yeah, the initial start-up is pricey; however, I have a friend who is very capable of making casts and molds. I'm hoping that the expensive bits (Lictor and Venomthrope components) will only be a one-time cost. I know some people frown upon making casts and molds, but I'm trying to think of a way to make a interesting conversion without spending a literal gak-ton of money. But yeah, I'll definitely post WIP pictures as I get around to starting the project.

Sounds a good idea to me, although if you're going into GW games and stores you'd better keep the fact that some bits have been home cast. They can be very silly about that.

I reccomend green-stuffing some gas sacs onto the carapace, and possibly extending the spines on the Ravener's back into vents. Also, provided you don'tloathe Finecast (as some people do,I'm not getting into an argument about it, the last one got me banned) I would personally try and get the new Finecast tendrils. I have assembled a metal Venomthrope, and let me tell you, the tendrils are nightmares to glue on.

Out of interest, are you using the old metal Ravener body, or the new pastic one?

Using GS to model some gas/spore sacs onto the carapace would be very cool; however, my sculpting skills are very bad. For fear of ruining the model, I'd probably avoid that altogether.

Yeah, I've heard some doozies about using non-GW products or home-casted models at a GW store. Fortunately for me, where I live, nobody cares. So, I'm safe from persecution on that front.

I was planning on using the plastic Ravener bodies. I actually just got a Lictor yesterday and we're working out the details of making 3-9 duplicates of the head. I'll definitely add pictures as the process starts.
