So I am debating between getting ahold of somthing new, I bought some eldar troops and fiddled around played 4 or 5 games and lost every single one trying out the whole "thius troop is this this game" and I couldnt find anything I liked about the gameplay of the eldar, they are just too squishy and dont seem to shoot as well as taao so im pretty well off of them. That being said now im looking to try out other armies using the same method, I noticed as I was looking through the armies that there were a space marine division called dark angels but they seem to just be space marines that look different? Is there any real difference to them other then story? I really am interested in them and am going to look at a codex my friend has on his comp. Also any good noob army recommendations wouldnt be bad either as long as they are not eldar

Eldar are not a beginner army, they are a finesse army.

As for Dark Angels they were unique until the current SM codex decided it liked the stuff the DA got. Their most unique formations still are the Raven Wing (Bikes and Speeders) and the Death Wing (Terminators).

Basically if you want to run them standard you're best going with the normal marine codex. The DA would be best, in my opinion, played as Death Wing as not only do you have a full Terminator force, if I remember correctly you'd have the Terminator force with the best shooting capability.

As for easy starter armies, you're looking at all the marine varients and maybe Orks.

not_u pretty much has it right. Eldar are an army requiring finesse and skill to wield correctly.

I think you want an army that plays like eldar, but is more durable? I'd say look towards marines maybe and tailor your army to a biker army or something similar.

Eldar are pretty unique though with their aspect warriors and transports. Their closest relatives are Dark Eldar, but they're just as squishy.

Even a marine biker army would not play anything even remotely close to any kind of eldar army. Eldar are fancy tech heavy, but squishy. Marines don't have either of those. Except for guardians, Eldar are specialists with their equipment making it difficult for them to take on different roles. Marines really don't have that problem. Devastator marines fight in hand to hand just as well as tactical marines. Assault marines shoot just as well as tactical marines and devastators. Etc. In fact playing a marine army is about as opposite as you can get from playing an Eldar army.

Marines are the most popular army because their basic troops can do it all. Their stats enable them to fight well in melee or shooting, and they can add a special weapon and a heavy weapon too. Other armies, the shooty specialists have better BS, but low WS and vice versa. Marines are the only force that has at least 4s in both for all of their units. Makes life much easier.

So I am looking around, and the reason DA intrigued me is the way there codex read (I have pdfs) made it sound like there ravenwing squads seemed like they were excellent fast attack troop. I want a set that can move around effectivly and be able to shoot. Kinda like a guerilla warfare type thing if there is a set like that? Dark angels seemed like my cup of tea i liked there back story and what was stated before. Only issue is it seems like they are now just space marines re colored. Maybe I am wrong though if so please elaborate cause i am very interested in them

Your best bet is going to be to just play them.

The main difference between each of the marine flavors is their special rules.

I am definately going to be play testing some ideas if I get the chance (very unlikely at this point) . I was looking at ravenwing cause I like the idea of a bike squad set. I was also thinking about doing maybe a darkwing set, also wouldnt I be able to mix them? I dont see any rules saying I cant but all I see is people playing pure wings

Completely agree, if you wanted speed and suprise though, I would suggest either White Scars or Raven Guard

"You strive for victory. That is obvious. What may be less obvious is the nature of victory. There are circumstances in which you can destroy the enemy utterly, without loss to your own forces, and yet the victory may be his. In all situations, you must first decide on the nature of victory, and then take steps to secure it. Avoid the instinct of fight first and think later." ( Leman Russ )

Deathwing and Ravenwing set them apart, but they have lost a lot of there uniqueness over the years (I am a DA player since 3rd edition when I started, back when they had mini-dexs). The nice part with them is that they can also crossover into C:SM becasue they share many basic unit. So your one army will have two codi it can be used with, and C:SM never goes out of date.

So somebody wanting to run DA terminators and ravenwing attack squads could or could not do that?

If you want to run only those squads as a doublewing army, then you'll need either Sammael (makes bikes count as troops) or Belial (makes termies count as troops) or even both, but that's better for higher point levels.

It is perfectly viable and even really effective when well played.

Awesome, I was looking on GW and I dont see anything for belial as far as for purchase? Also on the white scars topic, whats the recommendation on building that set?

Belial doesn't have an official model, you'll have to make an awesome looking conversion for him.

As far as white scars go, just buy bikes, loads and loads of bikes. That's practically all you need for white scars. And convert a chapter master riding on a bike to make bikers troops choices.
