I was looking through some of my old stuff and found both the battle for macrage and blackreach boxes and after being inspired by the blood ravens from dow i decided to build a small space marine army from the boxes with a some extra models i recently got. This is my 1st time using
space marines and any tips would be great

HQ
Captain with storm bolter and powerfist-128

Troops
Tatical squad with Missile launcher and flamer-170
Tatical squad with missile launcher and flamer, sergeant with combi plasma and power sword-195
Scout Squad with heavy bolter-85

Elites
Dreadnaught-105

Fast Attack
Assualt Squad, sergeant with lighting claw and storm shield-130

Heavy
Devestator Squad with multi melta, heavy bolter, plasma cannon, lascannon, and sergeant with combi melta-190

Total-1003

For a first list its not bad, although i have some things that i think would help.
1: your captain should not be alone, i would reccommend giving him a jump pack and putting him with the assault marines.
2: in the assault squad 1 lightning claw will not do you much good. id recommend replacing it with a power fist
3:your devistator squad can kill anything on the field due to its variety of weapons, but its not good at killing 1 thing. you would be better to change it to 2 plasma cannons and 2 lascannons.
4:what gear does your dreadnought have? a good loadout is an assault cannon and dreadnought ccw
5:both of your tac squad sargents should have power fists or power swords.
6:tactical squads become all the more effective when they are in rhinos, with 2 firing ports you can fire 2 guns out while still maintaining the safety of a transport.

Thanks infinte, i will proably replace one of the plasma cannons on the devestator squad due its chance of overheating and putting in a heavy bolter to offer anti infantry support for the squad, the dreadnought has the basic multimelta (its from the black reach game, i didnt have a choose) and ive been looking at fitting in either a rhino or drop pod for one of the tacs

I would drop the storn bolter on the CC and give him the combi-wpn from the dev. sq. The dev. sq. sgt doesn't need a weapon of any kind. In fact, I would take him as your first casualty...

Powerfist the assault sgt., or try to squeeze in a meltabomb for walkers and tanks.

As for heavy weapons, split up the tacs into combat squads during deployment. Give the dev. sq. the MLs and the tac squads the MM and the HB. This your weapons in the dev. sq. wpns have similar range and you can maximize the damage. If you are shooting at troops, you can have three templates, if firing on vehicles, you then gain two S8 shots to compliment your LC. Against CSM this should help pen. most CSM vehicles except the dreaded LR, but at that level of play, I doubt you'll come across one.

Now use those combat squads to advance down the field, the MM in a squad with 4 marines w/ bolters, the sgts. with any sp. wpns. close up work. Put your CC with oen of the 5 man teams to 1) shield him, and 2) bolster that sqs. cc attacks. The HB in another 5 man sq. with 4 bolter marines. This could lay down decent supressive fire on troop choices. When they get close to your troops, fall back and keep on firing.

"If guns kill people, then do pencils misspell words?"

Gun control laws only impact the law abidding...

meltabombs for walkers , you have a point though.

Transportation and mech is where it is at. Go for rhinos or the razorbacks. It is just needed.
Having 2ML and 2 plasma dev. squad is the thing to do here. Also the combimelta serg. would be good for a tactical squad.

Captains are rarely better than librarians. A plain librarian will do you well.

Assault squads are pretty bad.

If you take out the assault squad for 2 razorbacks with let's say las/plas turrets and then you will on to a very reasonable list.
2 razorbacks and dread going forward with 6 heavy weapons giving covering fire is pretty good.
