This happend to a friend of mine last night at the club.

He charged a Bloodthirster with a unit of 15 Cold Ones and a Character on a Dragon.

The Bloodthirster issued a challange and because there was no way to send the Dragon to the back of a Unit the Bloodthirster went into a challange with the Dragon, it then killed the character won the combat and broke the cold ones.

This doesn't seem quite right but as far as the rules are concerned seems to be the only way it can go.

Was there anything that could have been done? (Other than not charging the Thrister with the Dragon in the first place)

We love what we love. Reason does not enter into it. In many ways, unwise love is the truest love. Anyone can love a thing because. That's as easy as putting a penny in your pocket. But to love something despite. To know the flaws and love them too. That is rare and pure and perfect.

That was perfectly legitimate. Sending in just the Coldones was probably a better bet, especially with ASF or Hydra banner

Yeah, I doubt he'll make the same mistake again.

Or refuse with the knight champion... Then you get the full on slugfest the elves want

Except you can't do that. Page 102 covers that if a model can't be moved out of base to base, it is unable to refuse a challenge. He could have accepted with the Cold One champion, but I suspect the outcome would have been pretty much the same.

That said, assuming the knights had a single rank they should have been steadfast at least. But as Nos said, not multi-charging was a better situation, strangely enough.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

You don't refuse with a particular model. You either accept with a model of your choice or refuse the challange. Then your opponent nominates a model to send to the rear. If there is a model that can accept a challange but can't be sent to the rear then it must accept(unless someone else accepts)
