Given the recent ruling on the Impaler Cannon negating cover granted by KFF and anything but terrain*, it's time to discuss some ork tactics versus nids. As is my kan wall has had trouble against my brothers list because of more than just the impaler cannons, the big bugs are especially hard to bring down sometimes. So What do you fine orks recommend for culling the herds of nids?

I think that holding 2 squads of defkoptas in reserve might be a good method, or perhaps some of the kommandos or snickrot, if I can tie up impaler cannons around second or third turn, this would be nice, that or my lootas now have new target priority to bring down.

What other insights do you folks have.

I put rokkits everywhere I can in my builds. Rokkits simply own Nids. They will ID the Doom and other Zoanthropes, and they ignore the armor of any MC with the exception of the Tyrant and swarmlord if I remember correctly, and even still, they wound on 2s, so its easy enough to wound them. So personally I never had problems with the big ones, its the little ones I get trouble from, so many of them

I played 1850 Tyranids with my Kan Wall a few weeks ago before the FAQs came out. Neither one of us could figure out how the Impaler interacted with the KFF. We played it as though it did not convey the cover save, and this is how it went down. We rolled Capture and Control and Spearhead, and both placed out objectives towards our corners. He reserved like 2 or 3 Genestealer squads in an attempt to outflank on my side and claim/contest my objective. That left him with a marginal force on the table. I just played Green Tide with 100 Boyz and 9 Kanz, pushing him into his corner and would have done terrible things had the game continued. When he rolled for them, he brought his outflankers onto his side of he board so he could attempt to stop or slow down my advance. Yes, he did take out about 6 Kanz with the Impalers, but I was scrupulous with moving into Area Terrain when he could charge, making his Genestealers I1, and maneuvering so I could get Furious Charge on my turn. Points wise, Hive Guard are a VERY expensive unit, and he only fielded 6 at 1850. Snikrot came in early and I set him towards his Objective to contest it, but they got wiped by the end by those outflanking Genestealers (how ironic is that?). He never came anywhere close to my Objective.

I don't know if this helps or informs, but this is how it went down. It was fun and competitive, and he said it was his first time having to pull a rear guard retreat instead of cornering fools like I did to him.
