How long does it take you to make an army list? It takes me about 10 minutes to make an army list.

A friendly list (i usually play at about 1250 at home due to time issues) takes me about 5 mins for my orks, maybe 10 for my daemons or DE. At home i'll either be against orks, SW or eldar, and will know which ahead of time.

A tournament list at 2000, designed to take all-comers, including writing army fluff and double-checking points values and statlines- probably about 20

It depends. It takes me a lot longer, without Army builder, than with.

I can spend a long time, sometimes, making small tweaks, to fit in pieces of wargear that I want. It also depends on the point level, and the Army as well.

So really, it totally varies.

I can spend a few hours tweaking army builder to get my list just right.

With an army building program (armybuilder or battlescribe) ... 5-10 minutes?

less then 5 minutes for a friendly game. around a week for a tournament, i am still working on my list for a tournament on saturday which i started like 2 weeks ago.

As I tend to only play at GW Doubles tournaments I spend a good hour in total - this includes tweaks and changes because of my doubles partners force. For example the current force I'm building I had to sacrifice some Heavy Bolters and flags for a trio of Lascannons to help beef up our anti-tank, which has put a spanner in the works for my army background, so I'll probably spend a good few hours on that alone, plus the army list. So building the army list, around an hour. Background & fluff? Several hours at least.

5 minutes if it's an army I'm familiar with. Sometimes things don't fall into place and I end up spending like 5 minutes just reconfiguring my army to fit in those last 50 points or whatever though.

I bought my entire army based on what I liked to play with in the DoW games.

Right now I only have 3 infantry units.

In contrast to that I also own 4 Baneblades. Stubbs come at me.

10-15minutes, I usually play friendly games, plus I only play ork, which to me there are only a few core units to choose from (I.e. warboss, big mek/ kff, boyz w/ pk nob, lootas).

I feel kinda bad about only spending 10 minutes to make an army list while some people will spend hours on it .

depends on why i'm making a list, I mean a lot of the stuff I already know by memory ( like squad costs, or units with certain upgrades). so most of the time it's about figuring out the remaining point values.

just shows that they are more obsessive about the 'perfect' list Nothing says you have to be. Different strokes for different folks

I find the game a lot more fun when people throw a list together on the spot, and then play a game right then and there, but that's me

Math-hammered, carefully tweaked tourney lists are just as valid as 'ok, i'm done, now lets play!' lists

If I'm going into the unknown and I have no idea what I'll be facing I can take up to an hour trying to decide how to deal with every situation and army and what I should bring to cover all bases. Normally about half an hour just deciding what I think looks good so must be brought.

About half an hour, if it's a new list. Thirty seconds if I just use one of my saved ones.

Technically weeks... I tweak my lists slightly after every game for the first 10 games or so..

but normally about 5minutes.

10-15mins with pen and paper.

Also obviously depends on the points limit and how well I know the force, if under 1000pts and a regular army probably about 5mins.
