I'm a Blood Angels player with a primarily Descent of Angels list, though I like to spice it up with some land speeders and, as of this coming Tuesday, a stormraven (happy birthday to me!).

In addition to a furioso dread, of course, what goes well in and on a stormraven? What stormraven upgrades do you think are particularly worth their points and which are not? Which of the Blood Angels' wonderful assaulty toys goes best in a stormraven (right now I'm probably going to fill it with my librarian and sanguinary guard, but I'm thinking of experimenting with a terminator librarian and some assault terminators when my budget allows).

In other words - please feel free to discuss stormravens and their tactics to your hearts' contents.

Well, of course, I'm more into BA stormravens. But I'm happy to have this thread be in honor of all stormravens (stormravae?) everyhwere!

Dreadnoughts, especially the CC type, like ones with blood talons.

In my GKs list I run 3x Ravens. 2 have Strike Squads (sometimes psycannon dreads too!) and 1 transports 5 diversified paladins with a libby! If I don't run the dreads then Mordrak and 5 ghost knights drop in. Mordrak being fired at coupled with shrouding on the ravens usually keeps them alive to deliver the squads.

I have been using my storm raven with JUST a dread in it lately, and I gotta say, I love how its working. If you stick a dedicated assault unit + dread into it, you have 500-600 points flying around in an armor 12 box, basically screaming KILL ME.

If its JUST the dread, its only 340 points in that box (assuming armor on the raven).... and it still gets the job done against most things in hand to hand, while being cheap enough that losing it doesn't cripple you.

What goes on in a stormraven? I assume a dance party

But for cargo, as GK i'd run a librarian and paladins or little inquisitor friends

as BA, death company, or a talon dread and a smaller backup unit.

I run a Furioso with blood talons. Plus a 7 men squad of DC with PF, 3PW and a Reclusiarch! There is not much that stops this group.

Must haves on a Blood Angels Storm Raven: Extra Armor and Multi-Melta.

Extra Armor: For all intents and purposes, a Storm Raven is a Land Raider, with that in mind, outside of it being Immobilized or Wrecked, you want it moving all of the time so Extra Armor is a must.

Multi-Melta: I add this in due to the "In your face" use of Storm Ravens and their contents. Once you dropp off that Furioso Dreadnought, you want him in combat as soon as possible. With that in mind, the Multi-Melta will help you in getting inside your opponents metal boxes.

As for the contents, Death Company, Dreadnoughts and Terminators all do well in Storm Ravens; however, keep in mind what Horst said. The last thing you want is an 800 point brick that gets sunk in your deployment zone.

For BA:
If you want the raven become a shooting gunship, put nothing but a libby and/or a priest inside( for 5+ cover and/or FNP), and give it missiles and TL-lescannon.

If you want the raven bring some bad boys into close combat, give it Extra Armor, TL-MM and TL lescannon, put 1 talon dread and some DC inside.

For GK:
Always TL-MM+TL-LC, put Draigo / libby + 5paladin inside.

Don't worry, Draigo will protect you guys!

I do TL-MM, TL-AC and Hurricane bolters. For BA, lets it pull double duty for anti-tank or anti-infantry. I have never been able to squeeze in extra armor, but I usually have a dread casting shield in it, so it has a 5+ most of the time.

Oh, as for what goes ON a stormraven, I've seen volleys of 4x blood missiles (or whatever they're called) used to good effect.
