Just playing with a list to include some thundercav and still be really strong shooting wise what do people think

1500 Pts - Space Wolves Roster

HQ: Wolf Lord
Thunderwolf, thunderhammer, wolf neck, wolf talisman, runic armor, storm shield
1 x fenrisian wolf

1 Thunderwolf Cavalry - Wolf Claw
1 Thunderwolf Cavalry - Storm Shield
1 Thunderwolf Cavalry

6 Grey Hunters Pack + Meltagun
Razorback + Lascannon and TL Plasmagun 35

6 Grey Hunters Pack + Meltagun
Razorback + Lascannon and TL Plasmagun 35

6 Grey Hunters Pack + Meltagun
Razorback + Lascannon and TL Plasmagun 35

6 Long Fangs Pack Lascannon x1 + Missile Launcher x4

6 Long Fangs Pack Lascannon x1 + Missile Launcher x4

Vindicator, 115 pts

1 Land Speeder 2 x Multi-melta

5 lascannons, 8 missiles, hopefully the enemy will have to split fire between the thundercav and vindi and not really deal with both so the vindicator will actually get to shoot stuff. Maybe deep strike the dual MM landspeeder near something valuable like a Land Raider or Monolith and pop it. The Lord with Thunder-hammer and bear can solo dreadnoughts and monstrous creatures pretty well without dying.

It looks fun to play, but you only have 3 troops, with only 6 marines in each. In any kind of objective based game your opponent is going to concentrate on killing those. Once they do, game over. Most 1,500 point lists would be able to do that, I would think, since Razorbacks are so fragile. For 6 man GH squads to work, you have to have a *lot* of them.

You're better off putting the Thunderhammer on the Regular Thunderwolves and the Wolf Claw on the Lord.

Drop the 6th Grey Hunter from each squad and go for Saga of the Bear on the Lord for added durability.

3 light troops is plenty enough if you know how to play smart so don't worry about it.

The lonely Vindicator is a source of 2 concerns:
1) Scattering onto your Thunderwolves and killing them.
2) Sticks out like a sore thumb with no buddy.
I would either take another Long Fang pack in his stead or another Troop Choice.

All in all, it is a decent Thunderwolf list at 1500 and should serve you well.

if you dont mind, I'd like to use it for my mate, 'cause hes new to wh40k and doesnt know english at all - but has a hungarian SW codex with the unites names in english put in brackets in it. Only if its no problem though.

although this will make me think harder on my eldar army list XD

For he who can make the enemy unable to hit back only wins the battle.
For he who makes an entire army unable to attack, wins a war. Stay in cover where you get 2+

I'd drop the vindicator straight off, drop a lazcannon down to a missile launcher on a long fang squad and the 2nd melta gun on the land speeder to pay for a 4th troops choice.
5 men in a razorback with laz plaz.

Wolf lord with the wolf claw is the best option, 6 attacks hitting on 3's with re-rolls either to hit or to wound at S5 is quite a problem for most squads especially since it strikes first in most cases. The thunder hammer leaves you open to being dead before your turn in cc. I'd also stick a wolf tail on the lord to prevent psycic attacks that don't wound effecting him. Saga of the bear is great but it isn't a cure all, if you tangle with a DC dread or similar you may still end up dead due to the sheer number of attacks it pumps out.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

In case you wanted a full explanation on why, its all about the Initiative. You really need to keep the I5 so you can keep your Thunderwolves alive if they have to charge an MEQ assault unit. T5 and a 3+ save will carry you far, especially with 2 wounds, but you only have 2-4 models in the unit, counting the IC. The numbers will bring you down unless you can whittle them down before they can strike.

Definitely need fuller troops. I'd drop two of the Razorbacks down to Rhinos and bump up those two squads to full strength. I'd also drop the Vindicator and take Razorbacks for the Long Fangs (give them TL Lascannons since they aren't as aggressive as the Grey Hunters). You'll have more than enough anti-tank and with the larger Grey Hunter squads you'll stand a better chance of winning your objective based games.

You can use the Rhinos to screen your Thunderwolves from enemy fire as well.

I'd drop the second MM down to a HF on the Land Speeder, but that's me.

And that's why I leave open ended suggestions

So cowmonaut can come and explain it further

lol, sorry. Its like some weird form of OCD where I have to try to be helpful

As a side note, I took my Tundercav w/o an HQ tagging along for the first time and regret it. I mean, they wiped out a CSM squad I had to deal with, and they survived for 3 assault phases, but two models out of the 12 survived and none of my Thundercav. Power Weapons/Fists were not the problem (only one wound like that), failing my 3+ saves was. Probably should give it another chance, but I really missed the I5 hits.

So maybe something like this.

1500 Pts - Space Wolves Roster

HQ: Wolf Lord Runic Armour Wolf Tail Talisman Wolftooth Necklace Thunderwolf Mount Frost Weapon Saga of the Bear + Fenrisian wolf
Thunderwolf Cavalry Storm Shield
Thunderwolf Cavalry Storm Shield Power Fist
Thunderwolf Cavalry

10 Grey Hunters Pack, Wolf Standard / Meltagun
Rhino

10 Grey Hunters Pack, Wolf Standard / Meltagun
Rhino

6 Grey Hunters / Meltagun
Razorback las / plas

Long Fangs Pack Missile Launcher x5 / squad leader
Razorback with Twin-Linked Lascannon

Long Fangs Pack Missile Launcher x5 / squad leader

Land speed with 2 x multi meltas

exactly 1500 points

I do kinda like the dual melta land speeder to deep strike and crack open something valuable like a monolith or land raider. Im split on weather to give the lord a powerfist or a frost weapon. With a powerfist or thunder hammer i can break him off and solo dreadnoughts with him no problem. In fact my last game i did just that he ate a dual blood talons death company dreadnought for lunch while the rest of the thundercav attacked some assault marines. But giving him an I5 frost weapon is pretty sick vs marines or orks.

Yeah, without an H.Q. they're pretty underwhelming. This past weekend, I took 3 Thunderwolf Lords with a Pack of Fenrisians to a 1500 point tournament and they singlehandedly wiped the field with 2/3 opponents, the 3rd opponent was Eldar and they kept chasing him back into the killzone of my Long Fangs so they still helped, just didn't carry the army.
