Hey y'all. Just wanted a little advice. What do I add to GW paint to make it be usable with an airbrush?
I've heard windex, water, alcohol. Which of these is the best?
Oh another thing, can I use metallic paints such as bolt gun, shining gold and mithril in an airbrush? Can I use washes?
Thanks in advance

I use ammonia free windex and it works just fine. Ammonia will eat the rubber seals.
Airbrush Medium is preferred, I just haven't gotten around to buying any yet.
Metallics and washes work fine. I airbrushed all my crossbowmen with Chainmail.

I use 3/4 windex to 1/4 water and haven't had any problems. I don't plan on using actual paintbrush thinner since windex works great. I have also used metallics and never had problems but just make sure it is thinned and you wouldn't have problems.

Tamiya acrylic thinner, I use tamiya paints primarily for airbrushing, but I thin all my gw paints with it anyway, works like a charm

Don't go with any fancy airbrush thinner, just use straight windex out of a bottle. If you use specific thinners often times the paint will come out a different sheen than if you were to brush it on when thinned with water or windex, so just use windex.

Just out of curiosity, is ammonia free windex sold at specific places? Because I had a feeling like windex might be what people would suggest so I started looking around my local stores after I posted OP and it seems that ALL windex sold has ammonia. Not only has it in fact it is advertised to have ammonia added.
Well thank you for the answer, any special instructions for the metallics and washes? Can I spray a wash straight or should I thin it as well?
Ohh by the way some tutorials say to use alcohol which I wont but why do some people use rubbing alcohol?

Alchohol has a different surface tension to water, and helps to atomize the paint.
My suggestion would be to grab a small bottle of airbrush medium, some windex, and some car windscreen wash. Try a test mini with each and see which you prefer.
I use Tamiya thinner and great great results, I have used screenwash in the past and wasn't that impressed.
For spraying washes you need to think about how you want the finished paintjob to look. For the traditional 'wash in the recesses to shade' look you might as well stick with painting it on with a brush - there is no advantage to using an airbrush if you're after that effect.
When you airbrush a wash you can acheieve really subtle efffects on flat panels, using thin coats. Just thin it to the same level you do with your paint (the consistency of skimmed milk, generally 4:1 paint:thinner, but can vary depending on the paint you're using.
Now, I'm not the biggest fan of spraying GW metallics, I find the pigment size and distrubution is off. You could look at an airbrush specific paint for any metallics, like the Vallejo Air range.

I mix mine with 50/50 water and regular windex, then 50/50 ish gw paint and the water windex mix.
Tamiya Acrylic paint thinner works pretty well too.
