In the Imperial Guard codex, squad commanders and Commissars can select power fists. Are they able to swap out their pistol and close combat weapon for 2 power fists (For the extra attack)?

Does it say they can?

It says
'The (Insert Title Here) may exchange his laspistol (Bolt Pistol for Commissars) and/or close combat weapon for X (X being the weapon choices)'

That sounds like permission to exchange your laspistol/Bolt Pistol AND close combat weapon for X.

Go ahead and dual-wield Power Fists.....not on the Commissars in Infantry Squads though.

It is also permission to "Exchange pistol OR close combat weapon for X".

The wording is; "The Platoon Command and/or Commissar may exchange his pistol and /or close combat weapon for:........".
It isn't even "one of the following" or wording like that.

This is one of those cut-and-dried cases that we so rarely run into here in YMDC. We should rejoice.

I was going to give it to my Lord Commissar. I just like the idea... Even if it isnt the smartest outfitting.

While it doesn't have a lot of impact in this case, you really should be more careful about how you word your questions in the future.

You talk about "squad commanders" which isn't a title in codex Imperial Guard.
You talk about "commisars" but fail to specify which kind of commissar.
And now you talk about Commissar Lords.....


Keep in mind that although some of these share a name, it does not mean that they have access to the same gear and upgrades.

Just a bit of advice for the future.

Considering only Veteran squad Sgts, Lord Comissars, or Commissars in Comand squads(platoon or company) even have access to Power fists, it is fairly easy to check all of them(4 entries; thats all that were needed for double checking).

Platoon infantry squads Sgts(or commissars) cannot have any power fists.

You missed my point.

Look at the bolded parts. I am well aware of the different options available to different "types" of Commissars.
And I am well aware that I could look through the different units and still find the answer.

My worry was two-fold;

One, that the poster wasn't aware of said difference.

Two, that the poster would get wrong answers to his questions in the future because they might lack a certain precision.


This wasn't about this specific question, but rather a change in understanding of the use of wording and how it affects the likelihood of us getting good, relevant, useful answers.
