I have always used plastic glue while assembling plastic models, however it occurs to me now that this may be short sighted. It seems like it will be easier to repose/convert models down the road if they are assembled with super glue. How well does superglue work on plastic? What do you guys actually use? Thanks!

Super glue is the only way to go. Don't drop your model or it will come off.
Otherwise, it makes for easy upgrade, conversion, magnetization in the future.

If you want to change loadouts, use magnets, not superglue.
Plastic cement for plastic models.

I'm doing a lot of conversions that really need the fusing properties of plastic cement to get the solid flexable bond that works so well for that kind of work.

For me the pro's of model glue don't outweigh the cons.
Its one and only pro: it is a strong bond (the strongest bond, really). This isn't much of a pro to me, super glue is more than strong enough for a mini. I suspect that is true for most people. It isn't like mini's are under lots of physical stress, except when they are dropped. And you know what, when they are dropped I would rather they break along glue lines.
cons:
* It will permanently ruin any part of the model it touches. It's stringy nature makes this a constant threat. And if any of it oozes out, better be careful wiping it up.
* The permanent bond means dropped models won't necessarily break along glue lines, it could break anywhere, making repairs more difficult. I WANT glue lines to be slightly weaker than the rest of the model.
* Changing things after the fact is a pain. Sometimes I want to rip off an arm or a weapon. With plastic glue I need to use a hobby saw, which is actually removing portions of the model.
So for one pro I don't care about I get a lot of cons I REALLY care about. If integrity was ever a concern I would go with plastic glue. For my mini's I'll stick with super glue.

Not to mention super glue are typically cheaper and easier to find than plastic cement.

Plastic glue for plastics. Superglue just doesn't have the strength v shear stress or resistance to heat/cold for me.
Interchangeability between rules editions is not a consideration (besides, I have enough models that if I want to use a flamer instead of a melta guy, I just sub the entire model - I don't worry about magnetising each little part. That way lies OCD madness).
It's not like bolter marines are going to change in a hurry (they've been a "standard" for the last 24 or so years and apart from newer models, the SM with bolter is still here.).
If superglue isn't strong enough to stand up to "normal" gamer use (which includes the odd drop from tabletop or case), then it isn't strong enough, period.

More often plastic glue. Sometimes super...
If you are super artsy I would say super. Less glue left over, cleaner seal.
If you are more casual and don't wanna burn your fingers to your model I would say plastic.
In addition plastic glue is a more flexible seal... So you can edit it more mid glueing.

Super glue. Just be careful. You don't need plastic glue, especially if you have any sort of plan to change that model or sell it.

For plastic on plastic go for plastic cement. The point of glue is to make two pieces one, super glue or other glues come close to this by adhering to either piece and holding it there rigidly but plastic cement melts the two pieces together. Metal on plastic is super glue territory and most basing materials get white/all purpose/random glues. Just make sure you use a small amount of plastic cement, less is more, and do not mess with the glue once it hits plastic. Also, watch for the tiny threads that the glue makes, really annoying.

Plastic glue every time!
It's so much easier to use, creates much less mess, and gives a stronger bond than super glue.
I often wish all models could be made out of plastic so I never had to use super glue ever again.

How many Space Marines does it take to screw in a lightbulb.
6, 1 techpriest and 5 tacticals that stand around trying to pose like badasses.
An Ork, Space Marine and Eldar are walking down the road. They see a Chaos portal that has a sign on it. It says: 'say what is true or be sucked in'. The Space Marine says: "I think I'm the bravest" and walks past safely, the Eldar says: "I think I'm the most agile" and walks past safely. The Ork says: "Me thinks..." and gets sucked into the portal.
