Subject: My first SW army ever- 2000 pts, trying to reduce to 1,5k- any advice is welcome

Dangerous Duet

So I've just made my first SW army list ever. I dec ided to first do it big (2k) aand then try to reduce it to 1,5k, choosing the units and upgrades I considered really good and that I liked. So here's the result :
Rune Priest : Master of Runes, Chooser of the Slain
160 pts
Wolf Guard Battle Leader : Term Armour, 2x Wolf Claws, wolftooth necklage, wolf tail talisman, saga of the beastslayer
155 pts
Wolf Guard pack :
5x Wolf Guards : 5x term armour, 3x Wolf Claw (instead of PW), 1x Power fist (instead of PW), 1x Hvy Flamer, 1x Mark of Wulfen, 3x Combi-melta, 1x Combi-Flamer
Land Raider Redeemer
465 pts
3x Grey Hunters squad (as it follows) :
Wolf Guard (power fist)
10 x Grey Hunters : 2x Meltaguns, power fist, wolf standard, Mark of the Wulfen
Rhino
278 pts each = 834 pts
2x Long Fangs Squad (as it follows) :
Leader
4x LF : 4x ML
Razorback : Twin Lascannon
190 pts each = 380 pts
Total : 1994/2000 pts
So of course I'm kinda looking to reduce it to 1,5k. So here's ideas I had to do that, thought I don't know if they are good : Take out the Battle leader and just keep the Rune priest and give him the wolf tail talisman. Or maybe should I look to the replace these two by a Special Character like Njal or Ragnar? Of course I know Grimnar is out of the question lol. After that, maybe just give one power fist or chain fist to my WG with a hvy flamer, and keep the rest with the power swords and stormbolters? Maybe also take out the WG leading the grey hunters? Here's what it may look like :
Rune Priest : Master of Runes, Chooser of the Slain, Wolf tail Talisman
165 pts
Wolf Guard pack :
5x Wolf Guards : 5x term armour, 1x Power fist (instead of PW), 3x wolf claw (instead of PW), 1x Hvy Flamer
Land Raider Redeemer
435 pts
2x Grey Hunters squad (as it follows) :
Wolf Guard (power fist)
10 x Grey Hunters : 2x Meltaguns, power fist, wolf standard, Mark of the Wulfen
Rhino
278 pts each = 556 pts
2x Long Fangs Squad (as it follows) :
Leader
4x LF : 3x ML, 1x Lascannon
Razorback
170 pts each = 340 pts
Total : 1496/1500 pts
So, what do you think of it?

I have just started my 1500 list too so wont be alot of help but your rine priedt needs to have his two powers chosen in the list not before any gameeolf gaurd intermie armour are expensive and find its to many eggs in one basket for todays mech lists (run rings around your termie armour)
also the rhino transport capacity is 10 you have 10 grey hunters and then wolf gaurd in termie armour at this pointd level i have wolf gaurd with combi melta and and fist and 9 grey hunterswith melta gun, mark of wulfen and standard in the rhino
take a look at my nearly 1500 list had a fair bit of help with it i would explain more but i am on the phone :-(

Your 2000 pts list, as it's written, it's illegal. Or at list can't work as it's written.
Yours Grey Hunters teams can't be of 10 pieces (double special weapons) and than embarked WITH a Wolf Guard in a Rhino. Only the Smurf Rhinos may carry more than 10 peoples. You know.. drinking beer and eating Kraken skewers SW must be quitely "fat"...
Returning on the list i don't really think you're gonna walk your Grey Hunters on the field and just move those empty Rhinos all around.
Same story for the Rune Priest, where do you want to put him? He also walking around under a rain of bullets?
For the rest is ok but not optimised, ie Long Fangs (if you find the models) must be alwais completed at the top number, Leader + 5 gunners.
Here my example for a nice 1500 pts list, not using Terminators however:
HQ - Rune Priest - Living Lightning & Jaws of the World Wolf - Chooser of the Slain. 110 pts
EL - 5x Wolf Scouts - Meltagun - Mark of the Wulfen. 100 pts [1]
EL - 5x Wolf Guards:
......- [1] w/Combi-melta/PF. 43 pts
......- [2] w/Combi-melta/PF. 43 pts
......- [3] w/Combi-melta/PF. 43 pts
......- [4] w/Combi-flamer/Wolf Claw. 38 pts
......- [5] w/Combi-flamer/Wolf Claw. 38 pts
TR - 8x Grey Hunters - Meltagun - Mark of the Wulfen - Wolf Standard - Rhino. 185 pts [2]
TR - 5x Grey Hunters - Meltagun - Lascannon/TL Plasmagun Razorback w/Dozer Blade. 160 pts [3]
TR - 5x Grey Hunters - Flamer - Lascannon/TL Plasmagun Razorback w/Dozer Blade. 155 pts [4]
TR - 5x Grey Hunters - Flamer - Lascannon/TL Plasmagun Razorback w/Dozer Blade. 155 pts [5]
HV - 6x Long Fangs - 5x Missile Launchers. 140 pts
HV - 6x Long Fangs - 5x Missile Launchers. 140 pts
HV - 6x Long Fangs - 5x Missile Launchers. 140 pts
1490 pts total.
With the last 10 points you'll can take something of your taste, in example a Wolftooth Necklace for the Rune Priest just in case of dangerous faces-to-faces..
Anyway.
Now, as you can see with the red numbers, every Wolf Guard is assigned in a way that complete the number of each unit depending the transport capacity of each corresponding vehicle.
Long Fangs doesn't need vehicles. in 2/3 of games you'll regulary field them from the beginning directly on terrains or on building (in cover).
Only in "Dawn Of War" deployments you will needs a transport for them (just to let them find position as fast as possible).
In this case Long Fangs will take the 3 Razorbacks and you'll can let the 3 Grey Hunters units just walk in from the edge of the board, they will than come into the 3 now-empty Razorbacks.
After that you don't need the HQ to throw more than a Psychic power per turn, save the money for something more interesting.
Just take a look at the Scouts rules, I wouldn't even leave home without them...
Hope this would help you.

The master of the runes is not that great, the shooting powers are decent but you can only use 1 a turn. I am not a massive fan of the support powers and I generally use my priests offensively but you can make great use of them. The problem is that using the cover save means that you will not be screening your troops who are more likely to need it unless you drop down to 8 gh in a rhino wiht a tooled out wg. The reason you have 9 men in both is that you can switch the rune priest to the other squad if need be.
That way you can make use of your master of the runes, otherwise it's too pricey.
Your troops are a little off the mark, max you should have 9 gh with MOTW, wolf standard and a melta gun. The power fist is ok, but if you use a power weapon you get an extra attack and strike at normal initiative which is rather useful. Sticking a combi weapon on the wg also augments your squad giving you that second assault weapon in a pinch.
Long fangs are grand, only thing that might be of use is another body in each squad.
If you have bought the landraider and terminators then play around with it, maybe try to play around with the loadouts, otherwise I would try to put some more troops in there. You may not get the worth out of the land raider at 1500 that you get in bigger games since it limits your list.

Okay so I've worked on it a little and here's what I have :
Rune Priest : Wolf Tail Talisman, Chooser of the Slain, Living Lightning, Jaws of The WW
115 pts
5x WG : 5x Term Arm, 4x Combi-Melta, Cyclone ML, 4x Wolf Claw, Thunder Hammer
Drop Pod
285 pts
WG : PF, Combi-Melta
8x GH : Melta , PW, MoW, Wolf Standard
Rhino
253 pts
WG : PF, Combi-Melta
5x GH : Mellta, MoW, Wolf Standard
Razorback : twin Lascannon
223 pts
WG : PF, Combi-Melta
5x GH : Mellta, MoW, Wolf Standard
Razorback
188 pts
LF Leader
5x LF : 5x ML
Razorback : Twin Lascannon
215 pts
LF Leader
5x LF : 5x ML
Razorback : Twin Lascannon
215 pts
Total : 1494/1500 pts
I seem to be cursed with the number 1494.... So anyway, the tactic is fairly simple : on first turn, the termies arrive via drop pod in the middle section between me and m opponent. Then, the LF moves to get in range of fire and disembark. The RP in rhino and the rest of the GH move forward, the RP using LL and the razorback firing with the lascannon. The rest of the game consist of my termies drawing the enemy fire and my GH moving forward with the support of the LF.

@toban
I think you miss the point of the above list. The idea is to have large troops that can take a few hits and still be viable. Your list may have volume but the troops are not very tough.
The point of mounting the long fangs is not to have them in a razorback but to have a twin linked lazcannons for anti-armour your list
The list you gave is good at taking out BA cavalry lists but I think his original list could easily give that one a run for it's money. The tranports are fodder for his long fangs, the land raider can weather the storm of missiles and his troops can take more hits before they have to take leadership checks.
Why did you go on about the rune priest dying in a hail of bulllets without offering something better for it to do? The only thing the priest can do in that list is sit with the long fangs and snipe, not the end of the world but it limits his use, in a rhino he can shoot out with the assault weapon gh.
Not sure what you mean about loading the long fangs in the razorbacks, you can only deploy in a dedicated transport if you own it, loading the long fangs up at the end of turn 1's movement is a waste, you can move and run them and have them in place for turn 2.
