So with he necron FAQ finally out and the ability to take 2 members of seperate Royal courts to join a unit, what are your opinions on taking a squad of lychguard (shields or not) with 2 harbringers of the storm, each of which have lightning fields? Probably throw Nemesor in there for extra counter attack fun. I think having the 2d6 str8 attacks on enemy assault unit will make your opponent think twice about assaulting and at squad majority T5 wih a rez orb we are talking a pretty resiliant unit. Thoughts?

I am very new to Necrons so cannot comment on that side of things at the moment. As a Grammarian I must point out that the word is ‘Harbinger’, not ‘Harbringer’.

Indeed, I'm typing on a cell phone so spelling errors are to be expected.

Seems rather expensive, just for that. It looks cool, but I don't think it's worth the cost.

Sounds okay, but if you really use Lightning fields, your probably better off with putting the second elsewhere, or making one a Destruction Cryptek and give the Lychguard some form of long range anti tank with the Eldritch lance, sword and board are tough, although they cost too much for what they do basic so I dont see a point in sinking a large amount of points into them anyway.

Your mind's in the right place, but I think you want the charge punishment on your warrior units, not Lychguard. You want people to charge your Lychguard (well, most of the time!).

Here's what I think will happen. You'll get double-tapped by S4 shooting and then you'll have some tough decisions to make. out of the 7 models in your 270-295 point unit, which ones do you want to take the wounds. 3+ saves isn't all that mighty for the Lychguard, and if you don't have a rezorb in the unit, they're only standing up on a 5+. With Zandrekh in there, you get some more survive-ability (2+/3++ and an orb) but it's the small arms S4 fire that's going to wear you down, and you will roll 1's, 2's, and 3's and stuff will die (Crypteks only have a 4+ save).

It might work really well... but I think there's better ways to use that unit (Like getting Nemesor across the board in a NightScythe and using Obyron to port the Lychguard next to something without scattering. Then have the storm dude in there, you can shoot at a vehicle the turn the lychguard arrive!

In all honesty, I'm really not a fan of Storm Crypteks at all. I just find them subpar compared to the rest of our options.

Hmm, I see your point. They probably would get more milage for less in a big warrior blob. I'm just trying to find a decent way to take base lychguard and still be slightly competitive. The new FAQ seemed like a step in the right direction for them I had hoped.

The Key with Lychguard, is getting them where they need to be. This is a bit harder, as we have no assault transports, and no model for the Nightscythe. Your best bet in that case, is a VoD. Another thing, that's really important, is including an Orb in the unit. This is where Orbs really shine, in expensive units like Lychguard.

Otherwise, Sword and Board, tend to be the most competitive.

Really though, right now it's hard to make Lychguard competitive at all. Wraiths just fulfill the assault role so well, and are much faster.

That's about my thoughts. I think VeilTek+Lord w/Orb is the best way to kit them, and with this you can really go with Scythes or Sword and Board, optimally finding them some cover early one if you go WS. Also don't leave the VeilTeks other toy at home (forget what it's called) it well definitely help you keep up with the enemies.

I've already made my current toy soldiers Triarch Praetorians, but have played around with this unit a bit in my head. I'm thinking 10 w/Ws, plus the above Court, in and army with a lot of divergent gauss fire, could be a lot of fun. Basically stun lock as much as possible 1rst turn with the gauss fire while the LG DS into place, then go rampaging through their tanks with some S7+2D6 goodness.

Yeah the cryptek with veil is probably my best bet at the moment. I know he's pretty points-y but perhaps using Obyron? I'm planning on running mostly foot list with either a monolith or two doomsday arks at higher point games. I just love the way lychguard look and the idea behind them as dedicated tank and MC killers, but i want to avoid running too much mech. I've got my IG if I want to do that.
