With the go to ground rule, it improves your cover save by +1. In open ground, that means you get a 6+ cover save. What myself and a couple of friends like to do for fun, is when a unit in open ground uses this rule, they role a D3 and a scatter dice. If their cover save is successful, they "jump" in the direction shown on the dice. This is sometimes very amusing as they jump into bits of impassable terrain (such as lava or smash head first into a rock) and consequently die! Thoughts anyone?

[Second War for Armageddon] While the Blood Angels set about destroying the massive Ork horde, and the Ultramarines bent their strength to the defence of the surviving hive cities, the Salamanders took upon themselves the essential but neglected task of protecting the supply convoys, fighting rearguard actions against the Orks' advances and escorting refugee columns. So unstinting were they in these arduous but unsung duties that the Salamanders were to earn the gratitude and respect of thousands of Imperial Guardsmen and civilians. The Salamanders have become renowned as sturdy and dependable allies, a reputation that is not shared by many other, more unpredictable, Space Marine Chapters.

Thats a cool addition, but imagine the dice and movement involved a big squad of IG that makes a bunch of saves would have to make. I think dropping them prone would make more sense, reducing how visible they may be for the next squad shooting at them.

To keep comic value, when the unit drops prone only let them tip forward from the front of their base in the direction they are facing. If they would overlap with each other or a piece of terrain when lying them prone they take a s3 hit as they kick each other over the right to be closer to the ground/smacking their head on a rock.
