Subject: New Eldar Fast Attack - Hornet, Wasp, Shadow Spectres

Just wondering if anyone has seen the new IP book with the new eldar stuff. I am really excited about the new fast attack section for the Eldar, specifically the Hornets, Shadow Spectres and Wasps. I do also like the Warp Hunter too. Out of all of them, the Hornets excite me the most. Now if the 6th edition leak is too be believed, which I think it probably is, I think all fast skimmers will get this rule, but until then, these hornets are bad ass! They have the Ariel Assault Rule, which allows them to go 12" and still shoot all their weapons. In their case two. You can purchase the Pulse lasers and you can give them spirit stones and Holofields, and you can have a squad of three of these bad boys. I recently played a game at my LGC and this squadron ate up so much fire and did a lot of damage as well. They finally went down on turn 7. The holo-fields saved them. But what was also nice is that their army concentrated on these instead of the rest of my army. If it would have ended on turn 5 it would have been an eldar victory, however by turn 7 my opponent contested or claimed mor objectives than I did. I do think that they performed very well though. Just wondered if anyone had any experience, tactics or feelings on these new Fast Attack Slots for the Eldar. I have played my Wasps, however I have not assembled my Shadow Spectres yet so I do not have any experience with them yet, but am excited to try them out. Please post with any comments or feedback. Thanks... Cheers

I have read the rules and think the hornet is very attractive - at 125 pts for 2 pulse lasers (4 S8 AP2 shots) it almost compares to a vendetta as a gunship/outflanker. With about any weapons configuration it is a big step up on the poor old vyper.
Warp Hunter also looks terrific. Maybe better than a fire prism.
Wasps might not quite be worth the points over regular walkers but the ability to take them in FA is huge. It's not my army type, but most eldar players who field 3x3 war walkers would probably be happy to fit in 3x2 or more wasps as well.
Spectres, I think suffer from the same problems as dark reapers. Too fragile and guns are overspecialised. Their combined shot will decrease in power with a couple casualties, and it is just too many points for at best, one roll on the vehicle damage table per turn. And likewise their individual shots just won't kill things fast enough to justify the price tag.
Overall, 3 very good vehicle additions which can make a mech eldar army better. A shame really, because that is how I play my eldar anyway (tanks shooting) and I would have liked to see some corsair units that were actually worth a damn in close combat.

Thanks for the reply.
I agree with the spectres, have not played them yet.
I think having a walker that can move 12" and shoot is worth a little more than the regular war walkers and this leaves the heavy support open to fire prisms or warp hunters.
Thanks for the input. Cheers.

I've played with a pair of hornets in a couple of games now, and for the points they are simply amazing. Holo-Fields and Spirit Stones, plus Pulse Lasers makes them a bit pricy, but man oh man do they lay on the hurt. In the context of an Eldar army, that much BS high str, low AP firepower at that range on such a mobile platform is sort of silly. Guide them and they get even worse.
Holo-Fields and Stones ensure that generally return fire is in the form of shakens/stunns, which means that with the free Star Engines, the lil' guy can clear 36" to get to a new, less threatened firing position for next turn. I've got 2 of them from Forge World, and I'm in love.

I have 3 of the hornets, 3 wasps, and a squad of shadow specteres with exarch and PL, but I must say, I really love the Hornets. Would love the Wasps more if they were BS 4.. But even though the Hornets are expensive with SS and Holos and Puls LAsers... Wow are they awesome. I think even better than Fire Prisms... I am glad because in the IA book fluff it says that Saim-Hann fields a lot of these guys.. which is the craftworld that I play. Cheers all
