So just started playing and I'm using the usual DOA. I played some games tonight and found that Dreds and Termies can be a problem. I was wondering how you guys usually play the army and what kind of strategies you use.

power fists in squads, and lots of bodies.

terminators are great, but if you hit them with 20 assault marines + a librarian casting unleash rage, they aren't living through that.

What Horst says. Power Fists hidden in squads will bring down Terminators and Dreadnoughts very quickly.

My problem with the termies was them getting the first assault in. I the only time dreds were an issue is when they locked my into close combat and I got unlucky powerfist rolls.

Dreads are my worst enemy. Termies I find are ok, but it depends on your list. I've got Sang Guard, Plasma Honour Guard and Unleash Rage Assault Squads to deal with them.

But dreads, well they're really tough. A PF hidden in a squad no way brings down a dread easily. I mean, that's 2 attacks, hitting on 4s, penning on 5+ and even then it's a 1/3 chance of actually killing the thing. With said dread killing 2-3 of yours guys per assault phase, they're just really tough.

I find the best way to deal with them is to melta/plasma gun them on the turn I land. If there was more than 1/2, then idk.....

What about a small Jumppack thunderhammer unit of DC's With Lemmy?

I'm just going to play as many games as I can. Problem with the dred is that once hes locked into combat with a squad there isnt a whole lot you can do until he kills the whole squad.

then they should be your primary target when deepstriking in.

Target the Dread with Melta on the deepstrike. I run an Honor Guard with 4 Meltaguns. I have found them successful against such targets.

Curious: what is the wargear on the terminators you are fighting against? How are they going first?

Don't give up on your list, either. Just keep playing games and gaining experience as a table top general.

The dred drop podded right on my squad and had 2 close combat weapons. Problem with the termies was not being able to get any hits.

If he drop podded he can't assault. You can move away faster than he can move towards you.

Yeah after two melta shots and an assault with a powerfisted unit with red thirst I still couldn't wreck him.

That just sounds like some bad luck.

As for the termies, you should be able to stay out of range, you have an 18" assault (12" move, 6" assault) vs their 12"

Agreed on both accounts. You have the advantage because of your mobility. If the dreadnought has two CCW, you may not need to engage him at all to win the game. Depending on where he lands, you could just avoid him (with due consideration to mission objectives of course). Use your superior mobility to take the fight where you want the fight to occur on the table.
