Ey all, I know, I haven't been here in quite a while, I've been taking a major break from Warhammer. Well, I'm (mostly) back and I want to get back into painting my old DE models, so I have a question to propose for you all.
I've been experimenting with different styles of painting my DE, unfortunately many of which I really haven't seen other people do so it makes it difficult for me. First thing I tried was to spray them with a white primer, paint cloth and eyes, dip them in Minwax in a dark brown shade, then paint the skin and spray with matte varnish.
This didn't work real well for a few reasons - the matte varnish wasn't working real well for some reason (it wasn't covering it all, even though I sprayed it generously, though that may have something to do with the snow on the ground and the almost 0 temperatures when I was spraying. As well as that, since the old models have large flat areas, it did some pretty bad pooling that just looked ugly if you were within 5 feet of them.
So next I tried it on a test model, this time with a white primer and then a silver nickely kind of color spray paint, and the same everything else. It didn't pool quite as bad, it only looked ugly from about 3 feet behind.
Does anyone know how I might be able to get a quick shading on them, as I have a ton of models to paint and not much patience, without that pooling? I like bright colors on my DE (not garish, just not the common dark colors), so I would rather have them like that, but I'm willing to change that. Really, I just want something quick. Also, any ideas on why my varnish wasn't working? I can try spraying inside, so long as the fumes aren't too bad, but it's even colder now (hovering around -20 most days) if that contributes to it.
