I guess this is where this goes? I dunno, either way I'm looking into chaos tau dark eldar or somethign with a little more variety than my blood angels.
It's either spam spam spam or...spam spam spam...
That said I was looking for something with a little more variety IE shooting with some cc units and the ability to still win some games. I know Tau is a ton of shooting but I don't really know a lot about them but I love the look of their units. I've read 90% of the HH novels and I'm in love with chaos next but I'm not sure how strong they are not sure how expensive the army would be to start all of these things are kinda weighing on my decision.
So, I guess the question remains. For a friendly game what army has the most variety is fun to paint just an overall joy to have around? (the only army I'm not really into is eldar =[)
So I guess the question stands! What should my next army be! =D

Chaos has the most variety out of them, I would say. While Tau does have a variety of close combat, Kroot are just..good for getting curb stomped by just about everyone. Dark Eldar are all about Spam, at least if you ask me. Dark lances everywhere.

Do you think tau is worth the play? I'm only going to be playing 2k games or so, I'm guess monetarily that's not a TON of money to get together I just want some fun that can still win. I love the tau units like I said just seems like turn 3 they're in deep trouble when everyone's made it to them...

I will be honest with you, Tau are a bottom tier army. Until they get a codex update, they are not very viable. I am not saying that they are impossible to win with, as tactics are very important, it is just that their codex is showing its age.

But, CSM are as boring as it can get with their 4th ed codex.

Then I guess the question is, what would you guys suggest are orks worth the look? What can win and is fun I'm open to any idea I may not get to play to often and I love painting so I guess when I get to play it'll be variety and enjoyment more than competetive tourney lists.

orks do ALRIGHT given their age, but they are not the best. if you like chaos, you could always use a better marine dex and proxy or counts-as models. make them a recently turned chapter or something.

I decided to add another army a year ago. (Usually play Dark Angels or Salamanders). I decided to get Dark Eldar, and I really like them. I don't play the Venom spam lists, just picked a bunch of cool looking models. I've been really happy with them. You have to play them completely differently from Marines, and the change in tactics is really refreshing. It's also good, because my opponents never know what to prepare for....wyches, Deathwing terminators or tons of melta and flame.

Bottom line, I'd just pick whichever army you like the look of, and plays differently from your own.

Alrighty mate! First lets talk about why you want a new army. You said with BA its spam spam spam.. or spam spam spam... thats your problem not the codex. And its one that isnt going to change when you move to a new army... ESPECIALLY tau XD (so possibly give a new look at units in the BA dex you dont own, or never use, or both )

The question you need to ask yourself is what you want to get out of the army. Because if you are looking for fun and enjoyable, any army will do. If your looking for "easy button" none of the dexes are gonna help you, and if you are looking for a codex that does really well competitively and can produce fun lists as well, then you have options (GK, BA, SW, IG, Orks, DE for the most part)

And I would caution you against calling blood angels, grey knights, or space wolves anything else but what they are (it will get some peoples rankles up, and the same goes for the rest of the power armored fellows) Sure give the different dex a try, but dont expect people to play you happily or at all (except me, I dont mind crushing any opponent BWAHAHA )

But anyway, that is my .02

When your wife suggests roleplay as a result of your table top gaming... life just seems right

I took my wife thru the BRB for fantasy and 40k, the first thing she said was "AWESOME"... codex: Chaos Daemons Nurgle..... to all those who says God aint real....

I'm going to disagree with this. Tau are still a viable army. It's all about weight of fire and target priority. Tau used right are still a devastating army.

And CSM are only boring if you go with the Lash list that everyone plays. I never use that list, and I have one manys the game!

Also, both CSM and Tau are rumoured to be getting new codexs soon.

I just don't like the spaminess of the BA. It's like
Step 1) Buy 50 assault marines
Step 2) Buy 50 more assault marines
Step 3) ????
Step 4) PROFIT
I just wanted some shooting some armor some cc units just some variety instead of razorback spam...just kinda takes the fun out of winning...it's like spamming down-B in ANY fighting game >.>
I love the look of most units I just want some variety I guess I know you have to have a lot of most units in ANY army but man BA got the shaft with variety =[
