I have a large army, the standard green has worked for me for years.. but i still have a lot of unpainted orks.. looking for unique skin tones, something different from the stardard green..

Google fungus. You will find all kinds of colors there to use instead of bog standard GW Green.

My mob has green, blue, brown, dark brown, red, etc orks in it.

I use a white primer, devlan mud for shading over it, and then thraka green. Mix in a little leviathan purple or asurmen blue for some unique shades. The wash technique for skin gives it a far more organic look, I find. It also makes it easier to blend for shades, especially if you create your own washes for more variation. I did a weirdboy in asurmen blue, and I was really pleased with the tone.

As for other ideas though, look up poison dart frogs. I've seen an army at my local store that took inspiration from them, with a feral ork/Zogwort theme.

The look awsome.

I'm not much of a painter (My Orks' skin tones are only 2 color, a dark base with a drybrushed lighter one) but I made some blue Orks and they turned out pretty nice. Fairly simplistic technique, but I just painted the sky Regal Blue and drybrushed Enchanted Blue on top of it.

Aside from that, I also have a mob of purple Orks (bought from a friend who was giving them away) and I plan to do a mob in bright orange with a yellow drybrush.

Get these P-3 paints and do them like this.

1. Troll blood base

2. Troll blood Highlight

3. Skorn Red

4. Gun Corps Brown

Base the skin in the trollblood base.
Color Chin and palms of hands if they have open hands or you can get the brush there with the trollblood highlight. Use a little bit of the highlight as a drybrush for the muscles onthe arms but it needs to be a light touch.

Gun Corps on the Straps around their bodies.

Color the pants and shirts Either some sort of light shade of grey or something like that is not a primary or super bright color. Boots are black of course!

Any skulls look great with bleached bone with devlan mud with a highlights of skull white or astronomicon grey.

eyes done in blood red and if brush is small enough you can look up more advanced guides to ork eyes.

Finger nails are skorn red.

Do teeth in bleached bone and if they have a tongue than do that with gore red and highlight around the sides of the tongue with p3's bright pink color.

I painted this guy: http://imgur.com/a/10Dtg like harleqwin said, white base, devlan shading then thraka for colour. I painted about 140 of these in about a month, I've been told they are "pretty" I wanted to emulate this kind of skin tone:
http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1250521_99060209049_ColWHOrcShamanMain_873x627.jpg but also get a painted green tide on the table quickly, might be a good way to clear your backlog.

Blue orks are fluffly for deathskulls and any other colour can be put down to blood axe camo. What about looking at some examples of native american warpaint to add a splash of colour.

"White ork" I like that, kinda the opposite of black orcs. I've got a squad of deathskullz which have blue war paint, same as above but with a layer of asrumen blue. I'll post a pic this afternoon, when I get back. You're right about it being simple, it's possible to churn these guys out.
