Hi there. I've been converting my current 4+ marine armies across to a unified deathwatch army - both to ease painting, also to unify the look and feel of the army, and allow for a lesser # of models required to still run multiple armies. Also since I both play and playtest Deathwatch, its good to have a wide variety of painted characters and chapters to choose from.

First off is my list for a 1850-2k army - I wanted a fun army to play that could play quickly - often I'm pushing 70+ models and 10 tanks with my space wolves, or 8+ infantry units, which causes real issues with keeping on time for tournaments. Plus, I wanted a list I could play, have fun with and not need to endlessly micromanage or care about objective missions or placements - this army has 0 scoring units so I don't mind.

So I created this -

Astorath the Grim
Librarian - Shield, Unleash Rage

Terminators x5 - all with thunder hammer + storm shield
Sanguinary Priest x1 - standard loadout

Death Company x 10 - 7 with close combat weapon, 1 power fist, 2 infernus pistol + power fist
Death Company x 10 - 7 with close combat weapon, 1 power fist, 2 infernus pistol + power fist

Stormraven - Multi Melta + Lascannons
Stormraven - Multi Melta + Lascannons
Stormraven - Multi Melta + Lascannons

Total - 1805, with room to wriggle on putting extra armor on the Storm Ravens, or dropping a power fist from each squad to add in a unit of scouts for objective holding.

Of course, I can always shift the death company to assault squads and save the points (and even add transports), and at 2k add another unit of terminators in the bargain.

Over time, I hope to make the following armies from these deathwatch marines Stormraven BA, Mech BA, DOA BA, Mech SW, Loganwing, Deathwing, Ravenwing, Vulkanwing, Lysanderwing etc - you name it, I want to be able to run it, and to have it future proof by it being flexible. Of course new models may need to be added or loadouts changed, but more than that I can't see an issue.

Anyway, this is the force I'm painting up currently - I should have 1-3 models up a day for a while - I'm going pretty strongly.

Here is the first tranche of models - painted to a basic tabletop standard. I'll go back once I have the force done and base them and clean up/shade the black a little.

My Captain/Librarian/dude with a power sword - apologies for the angles.

NOTE - I've tried to reduce the size of the initial thread by putting everything under spoilers. Click to look as you will - 2-5 models per 'spoiler'

Spoiler:

Blood Angels Sergeant/Death Company member - most pics were blurry of this one, will get better daylight pictures tomorrow if anyone wants one

Imperial Fist Marine/Sergeant

:Lamenters Sergeant/Death Company member

Thats all for now. Let me know what you think - your ideas/feedback etc is always appreciated.

Great looking models man! Love the IF model, is that a spartan head from scibor by any chance?

No, its actually a Khorne Berzerker head with the headpieces cut off either side. It creates a Mark III helm - I do the same for the skull head from the Berzerker kit to create Chaplains etc. Of course in 6 months they will come out with a plastic chaplain kit - but ah well.

Anyway, the kit is full of old school gear. Good fun.

Cheers mate! I spent a bit of time on that librarian. He was for an actual deathwatch game, so I wanted him to look cool. He actually ended up jumping on the back of a tank that was about to explode, ran across it and jumped off the barrel as it exploded.

Ok, new stuff - hot off the camera.

First is a bit more of the Blood Angels Sergeant with the Power Fist/Infernus Pistol - I'm thinking of counting it as a successor chapter. Anyway, I like the blue gems.

Spoiler:

Now here is my counts as Astorath the Grim. I would like to own the real one, but between the cost of Australia models and the option of converting Astorath across, I decided to make my own model.

Face needs touching up, but hey.

And a Salamanders Deathwatch marine - can be armed with a power weapon/CCW depending.

The cloak is from the Dark Elf corsair sprue.

Anyway, thats it for today. Tomorrow - Dark Angels and Space Wolves. Plus maybe a couple of Ultramarines Successor Chapters.

Ok, small update.

First up, a single photo of a Severin Loth conversion -

Spoiler:

I like it a lot. As I finish it, I'll post more.

Also, a Black Templar Assault Marine - still needing touchups and hardlining

Spoiler:

Also, I've been building some devastators/long fangs/heavy weapons for squads.

Here are the prototypes - its hard to fix up the left shoulder without some real hard work and greenstuff - so I added a bit of detail on the backpacks for them all. Here are the first 3 off the rank.

Spoiler:

Anyway, let me know what you think - comments and ideas always welcome! Also, if anyone has any good ideas for what to do with a techmarine body (no arms, no harness, just a body) let me know. I'm thinking of a few ideas, but thought I would throw it out.

Great conversions on the latest guys and the paint jobs also look cool and very crisp.

Ok, new stuff up!

More of the Exorcists Librarian - I like this guy a lot - plus the model is massive compared to the regular GW kits. Severin Loth is an awesome model to work with.

Spoiler:

And a Space Wolf Deathwatch Marine - sorry it was raining today and the light wasn't the best, so half the pics were unusable and the rest are not great. But I like this guy - and I love the colour blue I made - mix of Mordian Blue, Adeptus Battle Grey and Space Wolves Grey.

Spoiler:

As always, let me know what you think! Any tips, ideas, whatever - it can all help.

They both look great! One bit of critiscm is that the white on the space wolf helmet looks grainy, try and thin the paint with water, but it might just be the picture that makes it look grainy.

My only concern is that the Salamander shoulder pad makes it look like the Salamander is running away from battle because the head is facing his back. Otherwise they look pretty good.

Farty - Cheers Mate! As for the Space Wolf helm - its a combination on the helm - there were some impurities in the basecoat paint - I'll see whether I can work it out later on. If not, I'll cut it off and replace it.

Boyd - cheers again. Yes, I understand about the shoulder pad - unfortunately thats the way forgeworld rolls, making them that direction.

Anyway, update time - its the Sons of Dorn day here at the blog.

Imperial Fists Deathwatch Marine - I like this model. Special shoulder pad and backpack, lots of fun to do. But much heavier than expected

Spoiler:

Now Crimson Fists - same deal. Different colour scheme. But still interesting to do. The blue gives such great coverage - I love it.

Spoiler:

And the Soul Drinkers - the shoulder pad is from the Death Company kit - doing well.

Spoiler:

More to come of the soul drinkers, but its almost 3am, so I'll update more tomorrow.

Anyway, enjoy, and let me know what you think!

Ok.

New stuff up!

The rest of the Soul Drinker - I have one or two more of these guys. I'm going to make an Iron Snake or two, and maybe some Marines Errant - after that, I'll have most of the Chapters that I've found awesome in the Black Library books in my army. Oh, and maybe a Marines Malevolent and a Scythes of the Emperor. Anyway, here it is. See the post above for more.

Spoiler:

Now a Space Wolf - I like the blue eyes

Spoiler:

And a Black Templar - its hard to find these bits outside of buying the entire sprue. Must be lots of templars players who like it

Spoiler:

I've liked doing a colour scheme where everything is similar but every model is different somehow - colour scheme, layout, extra icons, whatever it is. A real joy. Plus taking the pictures has shown me areas where I need to clean up - and its easier to see than when I'm painting under lamplight at night.

I've also been building plenty of Terminators for my Deathwing/Loganwing Deathwatch army- more to come.

Cheers! I have got more good press about that than anything else so far Now I have to make something else awesome for people to go wow about :p Ummmm. Hmmmm. Yeah. Deathwatch Dreadknight anyone? Apart from that idea, I'm running on empty.

Though I do have some sanguinary guard in the production line that should at least turn a few heads

Oh, if anyone reading this has spare Deathwatch or Grey Knight (power armour) shoulder pads - let me know, and we can negotiate a price. I'm paying about 40-70 pence at the moment - if you have them lying around doing nothing, you can convert it into cash. Or I could make you a cool kneeling Imperial Fist marine on a trade or something. Anyway, on with the show!

Anyway, the next 2 Marines - Angels Encarmine (Blood Angels successor chapter) and Angels Repentant (Dark Angels successor chapter).

Angels Repentant Deathwatch Marine - I love the way the off white came out - its a lovely model to paint too. I love the skull backpack.
Spoiler:

And another Blood Angels Deathwatch Sergeant - another power fist and infernus pistol. Needs cleaning up and I missed a couple of details - seemingly easy to do with a model with this many extra bits. I'm also running out of successor chapters for the blood angels at this point. Soon I'm going to have to use the knights of blood and then start killing my own forces for being renegades or something :p

New stuff up! Ive been working on Devs most of the day, but got these guys pictured and out.

Again, minor detailing to do, but I thought once I had 15-20 done, I would go over them a 2nd time and fix up all the little bits, rather than get caught up.

Dark Angels -

Both are assault marines/death company members/whatevers required, really.

Painting dark green with black is tough work, but I'm sure I'll get there. These guys are only made out of 2-3 different kits, making them probably the least converted units in my army. Weird.

Anyway, here they are.
Spoiler:

And number 2 -

Spoiler:

Enjoy, and C&C always welcome!

Space Wolves Dev -
Spoiler:

Dark Angels Dev
Spoiler:

Soul Drinkers Dev
Spoiler:

Ok, new stuff. I've been working on some devs and an Apothecary/Sanguinary Priest as well this week.

As always, click on the spoilers to see whats doing.

First, a Blood Drinker Apothecary/Sanguinary Priest - I think he looks a lot better than the photo and lighting allows here, but he is still pretty awesome, at least by my standard. Nothing compared to the pro's around here, but I'm pretty happy!

Spoiler:

And an Astral Claws Devastator with plasma cannon -

I'm trying to think of ways to brighten up the plasma section without it looking lame - I'll post if I come up with something. Anyway, here you go -

Spoiler:

As always, C&C welcome!

Like the salamander conversion, also like the sanguinary guard piece conversions.

Great work on the blue, looks like you're improving as you go. I would look into gem painting tutorials to really make them shine though, but the natural lighting works well enough.

Cheers. And yes, gem painting is great - I've seen some, but I don't think I'm quite up to there yet.

Anyway, todays picture- only one - of a Raptors Devastator
