Hello, I'm in the middle of painting more of my Blood Angels army.
Normally I just base coat everything with blood red, wash with babad black and do another coat with blood red.
However, I found blood red to be a little thick so I usually mix it with water. When I mix it with water they are normally way to thin so I have to apply a lot of layer.
In something with bigger area like the dreadnought I found it is very hard for me to apply even layer of blood red on the model so my dreadnought end up having a really thick layer and it look really ugly.
I was wondering if there is a better way I could do this?

Yes. Basecoat with Mechrite Red instead of Blood Red.

Mechrite red will make your life easier, but just dont thin the blood red as much.

Spray paint (I used a base of Dragon red and then a top coat of pure red from Army painter)- Made painting really easy

Thank mechrite red solution works really well.
I'm also going to order the red spray from the army painter and will try it out.

The Pure Red Army Painter spray is great. I use it for my red Tau army and it's been a lifesaver. I'd definitely invest in a couple of cans for a BA army.

I agree on basing in mech red.

As for getting a good, bright blood red highlight, a fun trick is to first paint the area you want blood red pink (blood red/white), then paint your blood red over that pink. As you surely noticed, blood red is VERY translucent, and the layers below it show through, but when the layer is pink it just gives you a very bright red.

yeah use a foundation paint for the 1st layer. I use chaos black then add more color usually. Mechrite works too
