I was looking into buying and army of them and I see that they're the old line. What's the difference in the old line and the new and will it even work anymore? If the models are not playable then I need to continue looking.

You can use the old models, but considering how fugly they are and how gorgeous the modern ones are, not even cost could change my mind on that one. There's legally no reason you can't use the old ones, but they're so ugly they don't even have the quaint charm that some of the 80s and early 90s models have.
