Higher up the tables than you!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looking at the space wolf jaws of the great wolf power. It has no target. Its simply a case of choose a line, anything hit takes a infinitive test or dies.

Because of this lack of a target, I am to understand that the power can do the following:

Be used to hit models engaged in close combat.

Be used to hit models in different units not shot at by the rest of the rune priests unit.

Be used to hit models in different units to the unit being assaulted by the rune priest.

Be used to get around that new tomb spider thing that can nullify a power 'targeting' a unit near to it.

I can see no argument putting it any other way. But wondered if there has been some kind of FAQ stopping certain things. I would not imagine the designers of the game intended for the power to be used against people in combat. However it would seem sloppy design allows it.

Ghostfacekillah has it right, the DoW deployment allows you to deploy 1HQ unit and 2 troop units. A squad of boys is 1 unit, the transport is a second unit, for them to count as a single unit the transport would have to maintain coherency with a squad and be restricted to firing at the same target as the boys, that and it would be impossible for the transport to embark upon itself so the universe would implode if your boys squad attempted to embark. -TheAvengingKnee

If you have a look at the FAQ, you will see that there is a "target" of sorts, and this can constrain the rest of the squad (from memory)

You're right in that it can hit models in close combat

you have to have LoS to the first model that the line is going to pass through.

Would that mean that you must still roll for LoS during night fighting to see if you can use the ability, and if the first model is visable, you then draw the 24" line?

Nigthfighting is Spotting Distance, not LoS

so insert spotting distance in place of LoS.

I have heard of JotWW being compared to a template weapon. A template wouldnt roll for spotting distance, so does jaws?

Ugh, all this nonsense reminds me why I hardly ever play this game.

No, you use both in night fight - just because you have rolled high enough for spotting distance doesnt mean you no longer need LOS

What makes you think a template is exempt from rolling for spotting distance? Please, find a rule governing your (incorrect, to save you looking) assumption, and now see if your question has been answered

JotWW is NOT a template

If I wasn't at work I might actually be able to look at the rules...that's why I asked in the ymdc forum. Pardon me...

Now if answering my question is such a bother for you, then why did you respond at all? For that matter, as someone who spends MASSIVE amounts of time posting in this section, why are you acting like it's a chore to simply give the answer to my question?

I have simply heard alot of people refer to jaws as being like a template weapon. I am curious as to what makes it similar if at all.

It is similar because it hits an area/multiple models. There are rules for template weapons though, and those do not apply to JotWW.

Barbobot - I answered your question. I also pointed out that your assumption, that presumably was colouring your question, was incorrect.
