As the black carapace is the last part of becoming a space marine does anybody know how long the process of inserting it under the skin is?

They implant several pieces of it, and it grows and links up under the skin (using essentially "nanotech" to do this, even though it is specifically not noted as such, but the fact that it "grows" and yet is not organic very much strongly hints at it) over the course of at least several weeks, if not months.

Then it hardens, THEN the access ports are implanted into/through it. Probably 3 months to a year overall. Depends on the amount of handwavium involved.

Also, I should note that the black carapace is not the only way and not even necessarily the most efficient way to link a soldier's mind to their armor, despite what some people seem to think...
