Since my FLGS seems to have a lot of trouble getting in Battlefoam trays that I order (seriously sorry BF guys - I was under the impression the store was waiting ~3 months for my order, when it turned out they actually hadn't ordered them. Huge miscommunication issue), I've been considering ordering directly from them.

However, their shipping costs over the pond are... interesting, to say the least. I just threw in an Infinity Beta bag, two Hormagaunt trays and a Tyranid infantry tray - basically what I need to get all my stuff stored with what I already have. Came to about $90au all up, which was pretty awesome. Then I checked out the estimated shipping.

$60au. 66% shipping cost? That seems excessive. I was wondering if anyone - particularly Australians who have ordered from them, can shed any light on this. Is the estimate correct? This would tip me back to trying to order through my FLGS.

In the dark recesses of your mind...

I can't speak for Battlefoam, but I have shipped to Aus a couple of times and it is really expensive. I'm trying to guess at the size of the box that BF would need to pack your order in and the shipping cost sounds about right. I don't know how some businesses can afford to offer free shipping worldwide. I'm only a small fish in a big pond, when it comes to ebay and selling internationally, but I've been absolutely shocked at how expensive it can be to ship overseas.

I have also shipped larger boxes to AUS before, what would cost at most $80 to ship across the country cost me $500 to get to my customer in the land down under. FedEx, UPS they were all the same price to it wasn't just one place.

It was just shy of 50% of the total cost of the goods headed there also, I don't know what it is.....

- Space Wolves - 1500 Pts
- Necrons - 2000 Pts
- Orks - 500 Pts
Tyranids - 1300 Pts

Khador - 85 Pts
Trollbloods - 35 Pts
Menoth - 25 Pts

They're undeniably expensive. Even US->US s a bit pricey. I think it's just because everything is an unwieldy size for them to ship.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

In general shipping from the US is stupidly high.

You can have the same item shipped from a store in the US and one shipped from a store in the UK, and the shipping will differ anywhere between $10-$30 AUD.

Yeah shipping is brutal. I had the same issue as you, in that I was paying as much for shipping as the trays. Went for it in the end though, and the price on the shipping label was the same as the quote.

Best option is to club together with some mates and combine the order to split shipping costs. Might have to wait for tax rebate season when everyones feeling rich though!

With most shipping companies you pay for the box dimensions, not the weight.

Have you tried Wayland Games?

Obviously from the UK you will probably have currency benefits and cheaper shipping.

They have partnered up with Battlefoam so it may come direct from their BFUK facility.

Or there is just the BFUK website?

Anything that ships over an ocean costs more. That's the basics of it.
What you're ordering would probably cost about $15 to $20 USD to get to me (I'm guesstimating)... So, tripling to quadrupling that amount to get to you Aussies doesn't surprise me in the least.

I agree with notprop that you should check with Wayland and see what they can do.

Shipping from Wayland cost even more.

I'll likely talk to my FLGS manager to see when he's doing another order, and just make sure they actually order it.

You actually pay for both, but the size of the box has a much greater effect on the price.

So, I redid the order without the Infinity beta bag (because I'm positive my FLGS will stock those and I'll just buy one then), and changed the order to a pair of Hormagaunt trays and a pair of Tyranid infantry trays. Still about 66% shipping.

However, the order total is about $130au, which is far more palatable.

Australia can't seem to catch a break in pricing for this hobby can they? Which is unfortunate as a good number of our members here are from down under.

It's actually fortuitous that the Tyranid second wave rumours didn't pan out. I'll be able to order these trays instead, and actually safely transport my Tyranids around.

I ended up biting the bullet and ordering my trays. 4 trays and a set of toppers came to ~$140au, which comes to about $30au per tray and $20au for the toppers, which is about what my FLGS would have charged anyway.

At least this way I know I ordered them.
