Hey guys, today when dabbling with my Hive Guard and getting annoyed at how the gun arm joints are just out of reach of each other i put a perspective on how cool a Hive Guard looked when duel-wielding Impaler cannons which gave me an idea.

I feel like Nids need more shooting support and while i know you can make Dakka Tyrants, they don't really help your stuff like Hive Guard, Biovores, Zoanthropes ect.......

So i made this jerk, because really that's what Nids need to be more competitive ( Stupid Long Fangs)

HQ:

Hive Lord - 130 Points

WS BS S T W I A Ld Sv
4 4 5 6 4 2 3 10 3+

Unit Type:
- Monstrous Creature.

Weapons and Biomorphs:
- Bonded exoskeleton
- 2 Impaler Cannons
- Claws and Teeth

Special Rules:
- Synapse Creature
- Shadow in the Warp

Psychic Powers:
- Enhance
- Guide

Enhance:
The Hive Lord releases a Psychic aura that enhances all the living weapons and ammunition of Tyranids around it, strengthening them and increasing they capabilities.

This Psychic power is used during the shooting phase. If succesfull all friendly Tyranid units within 6" gain "Acute Senses", in addition the range of Tyranid Shooting attacks is increased by 6" (this does not include Shooting attacks that use the Flamer Template), this effect lasts until the end of the shooting phase.

Guide:
The Hive Lord channels the guidance of the Hive Mind onto nearby minions greatly increasing their awareness of multiple enemies on the battlefield.

This Psychic power is used during the shooting phase. If Successful allocate one unit within 18" of the Hive Lord, the allocated unit may for that shooting phase choose to split it's fire onto an additional target. (Example: A brood of 3 Hive Guard may choose to fire 2 Impaler Cannons at one target and the third Hive Guard may fire it's Impaler Cannon at another, or a Tyrannofex may fire it's Acid Spray at one target and it's Stinger Salvo at another) If assaulting, the firer must assault the nearest target fired upon

While I like the idea of a hive lord, it seems too similar to a hive tyrant with impaler cannons instead of scything talons currently. A hive lord should be different from a hive tyrant while standing on its own.

Perhaps make the hive lord a new 'unique' HQ tyranid model, like the Parasite of Mortrex or the Swarmlord. This way you dont have to worry about weapon options (since the dual wielded Impaler cannons seemed to be your thing, and I like your idea) and you can fine tune the points.

Also, as Enhance/Guide are the names of Eldar powers, as a bit of fluff you can have this strain of Tyranid born out of the conflict and absorption of a Farseer. So on a psychic test you add range and acute senses to nearby tyranid organisms for enhance, OR twin link a units shooting attacks with guide on one unit within 12. I mean, its Guide after all hehe.

Finally, I would reconsider the points on the Hive Lord. I would go with 200 on this guy to start. 2 Hive Guard worth of shooting is 100 points, but you lose shots when you take 2 wounds with elite hive guard. On the Lord, he has better armor, MC status for attacks, synapse and psychic powers. This is worth 100 points more for an MC version of a Hive Guard unit.

I agree with DevianID. I would also add that I would start him out at the base cost for a Hive Tyrant, 170 pts, equipped with one Impaler Cannon, and have the option to add an additional weapon, or replace both (or one) with another weapon. You could have a Hive Lord walking around with an IMpaler and Heavy Venom Cannon, or a Stanglethorn Cannon and HVCan, or two Impaler Cannons, etc.
