I don't know how to say this without sounding rude...
Did you actually read the codex? They come equipped with drones but for the tanks you can upgrade them to SMS.
There's nothing in the codex that even allows you to pay for drones on vehicles.
Edit:
Forgot about the hammerhead coming with burst cannons and paying for drones, forget asinine statement above.

It depends on the vehicle. Some vehicles (like Devilfish) come with Drones included. Other vehicles (like Hammerhead) have to pay extra. Check the vehicle entry to find out.

got a question regarding this, but about KP
I played a tau that separated the drones from his devilfish (or whatever the transport name is) and i killed his drones after he did a neat trick with them to prevent my assault of his firewarriors.
Are the drones counting in KPs? We couldn't find an answer in the codex...

A: Yes to both questions.

I am assuming they do. Does it say that they become a seperate unit after they detach from the tank? If so then yes.
Also, I didn't know that Tau could even do that still. I haven't encountered an army that decided to since their newest codex.

I just found it misleading that gun drones were in the vehicles section, so I was unsure if you had to pay for them or not.
