Since I started this game I've been on a limited budget, and $18 a model is too much.
I created this to basically ask how you would go about making your own crypteks.
So, any ideas?

Warrior body, Praetorian Staff, Death Mark Head.

Beyond that you can glorify some details on with GS, and as for the staff head I saw a guy on here not long back that made some awesome Harbinger Staves out of the Praetorian Staff and an empire wizards staff end.

check my P&m blog, though i badly need to update it, lots of new stuff!

I take the broken necrons on the ghost ark, add bits, make cycloptian, then make them floating psi style necrons, at least those are my eternity teks.

my destruction harbringers carry large intimidating staves, and my necron lords are converted from the lychguard set (and my pariahs are the lychguard now )

Melcavuk- would you suggest the warrior legs as well?

I like the floating thing, its just the mechanical tentacle floating part that, I don't know just doesn't work for me.

How would y'all think warrior torsos would look on lychguard legs?
the legs have better posing but are bigger and I'm trying to keep these guys to warrior size there stat line is almost the same.

they would look silly since the lychguard are almost twice a warrior's size.

Lychguard are huge by comparison. My gallery has a cryptek made from a lychguard but he is huge next to a warrior and doesnt really represent his lower save. Warrior body and legs are the way to go.

Thats what I was thinking. all right next question. how you repose the warrior legs?

Cuts at the joints, the hip joint and foot joint are the most forgiving and easy to repose once you have found the right position. I have found the knee to be harder to resculpt with GS when you have set.

You routine (though I have only done this a handful of times)

Cut the joint you want
File
Pose, then pinvice where you will need pinning
Pin, check gaps
Sculpt GS around gaps.
Tidy up
Pray it looks good.

The only reposed one I was vaguelly happy with to photo was this one:

thanks for that. Has anyone done something interesting to differentiate the harbingers?

Be thankful regular squads don't cost $55 AUD(about $56 USD), or $23 for a cryptek.

I've heard of using the ones on the barge or conversion using praetorian parts/warrior body/deathmark head.

I like using the Lychguard body and deathmark head for the cyptek, then using the left over bits from the box you can jazz up the cypteks to make them into the different harbingers. Melcavuk cyptek on his page are a good example and I don't mind there huge size as it makes the Royal Court look more impressive.

What about using the shield as a tail/cape replacement?

The shield is very bulky, even with the hand on it filed off its almost the same depth as a basic warrior torso. Which to me meant that it would need so much work to form a cape that it ay well be easier just to GS sculpt one (I had poor results here but it was a good effort).

Trimming the long pole off of it can be used as a tail, an alternative would be to referse the combo I used on my immortal primes and combine the praetorian and lychguard spines into one long and mildly curved one, and then add a spike onto the bottom to form a tail.

That said if you dont intend to field shield lychguard then using the shield in any way possible will prevent waste.

Didn't want to ninja your thread (and felt they deserved their own lil warm cozy spot on Dakka) so I posted my take on crypteks in a seperate post. I thought you guys might be interested in them though. I differentiated mine by using different staff tips...

Edited to add a lil more info rather than just a link

I tried making a cloak for the first time two nights ago, for my Inquisitor. Sorry for bad pic quality:
Spoiler:

It seemed the trick was to use a lot more material than you expected. In the end the cloak was almost square with the high and width nearly matching; I'd say just under twice the width of the torso it's going on would be a good idea. I did cut it at a slight incline so it thinned toward the top and, as you can see, I had to cut a slit for the backpack.

If you gently force the cloak to cit to the shoulders, folding it so that it will, it sort of 'naturally' curls up. I had to accentuate it by sticking a paint brush's rear under it to make the bulge, but it turned out sort of well.

The weird texture on it is from me trying to go over my thumbprints with super glue; I'd heard that works. Won't know until I prime it. Might be best to just fill it up with more GS

Ofc cloaks for Necrons demand that the cloaks be ripped and torn, imho.
