I've had these guys for about 8 years now and never cracked a single box.... Finally hooked up with some old buddies who wanted to play again.

Anyways I realize that 1k in WHFB is pretty small but we are just starting out and are trying to get used to the rule set etc....

Thane w/ GW and RoStone
Thane Standard Bearer w/ RoCourage
24 Warriors w/ GW and full command
24 Warriors w/ GW and full command
G.Thrower w/ Engineer and RoPenetrating and RoBurning
Cannon w/engineer and RoForging and RoBurning.

That list comes in at 994 pts....

I have 32 thunderers/quarrelers as the only other dwarf models I have. I opted not to use them for more warriors since im playing Chaos with Knights.

I have plans for 2 boxes of Hammerers and an Organ gun and to make my Warrior larger in size.

Any advice for now?

Well, two squads of 15 Quarrellers isn't a bad deal (but only put a musician in them and nothing else) You've got it spot on with the hammerers, they are the best unit in the dwarf book IMO. You could also arm the Quarrellers with GW's to make them more flexible, or even give them GW and make them rangers so you can hit on 4's at the start of the game and piss someone off by deploying them on their weakest flank (I tend to like Longbeard rangers more ) two groups of 30 Warriors with GW are quite good as well, and are probaly the second best unit choice in our book . Grudge throwers are just godly, specially if you have a engineer or even a master engineer to re-roll those pesky misfires (I usually run two Grudge throwers cause the tend to wipe out a unit of 25 in one turn (on good dice rolls though). Organ guns are extremely good as well, they tend to have more damage out put then a unit of 15 Quarrellers but have a 1 and 36 chance of blowing them selves up :(. A cannon with rune of burning/forging is good hero/hydra hunter ;D.

Your on the right track buddy.

Ok, I will go through your units one at a time. But before I do that I will start of by saying welcome to fantasy and Dwarfs.

First off I assume you have two thanes due to point restraints. Even so I believe you would be better off with a Runesmith as your general, as for runes I would give him a setup similar to this:

Runesmith, MRobalance or Spelleater rune. And then either RoSpellbreaking or RoPreservation + RoStone + RotFurnace

Thane, BsB, MroGromgil, RoResistance, RoPreservation, RoFire, RotFurnace.

Warrior blocks are good.

GT, RoAccuracy, RoPenetrating is a normal setup

Cannon, RoForging, RoBurning

Hope this helps

I'd agree with Grix, though I think he goes overboard on the BSB's defensive runes for just a 1000pt battle. That's the build I run my Thane with at 2400 points! At 1000, I usually just give him MroGromril and maybe Fire and/or Furnace. The vast majority of combat characters you'll run into at 1000 points are A) Not that deadly or B) required to challenge. If they challenge, you can just decline and keep your character safe anyway if the enemy character would toast them.

Basic 1k build is: Runesmith, BSB, Warriors, Warriors, Cannon. So you're very close to the standard already!

Good advice Impy, I'd squeeze in the GT with RoAccuracy. I took down 14 bloodletters before they made it to my lines in a small 1k point game was absolutely brutal. If it's a GT or a cannon I would make a change on the fly if it looks like you will be facing any hydras or hell pits.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Ok thanks for all the help guys....

After taking your advice with the runesmith and all those spell killing runs etc.... that costs more than my original thane... What do you suggest I give up to get these leaders up to spec?

The GThrower? Smaller Warrior squads? ditch the Egineers from the Warmachines?

Ditch the Engineers first, probably. Ditching Veterans on one or both of the GW Warrior units is also an option.

Runesmiths can only have 75 pts of Runes...

How do you get a MRoBal, Spelleater Thats 75pts for those 2 already.... and then 5 for stone and 5 for furnace?

Just asking cause the runes are making my life hell lol

Or was that if you took the RoPreservation then you took Stone and Furnace? I guess that makes more sense =]

My friend has made his list and it comes in at 1200 pts.... So I got to add those better runes etc....

Here is my 1200 pts of Chaos Killing Dwarfs (I hope anyways)

HQ: Runesmith w/ GW , MRoBal and RoSpellBreak
HQ: Thane BSB w/ MRoGrom and RoFurn

C: 24 Warriors w/ GW and full command
C: 24 Warriors w/ GW and Musician and Standard
C: 10 Quarrellers w/ GW and Musician

S: Cannon w/ RoForg and RoBurning
S: GT w/ Engineer, RoAcc and RoPen

1199 pts.....

Look good?

I like the last list, the only thing i would change would be to find 20 and get rid of RoFurnace on bsb in exchange for RoResistance (re-roll As)
