I picked up C&C Ancients a few weeks ago. It uses blocks instead of minis, but I'm finding it a lot of fun regardless. And if one really wanted, it'd be easy enough to convert into a miniatures game (swap out each block for a row of troops, and increase the play area to accomodate). Is anyone else familiar with this game? Any thoughts on the expansions?
I also finally figured out a use for my Arcane Legions starter. I ended up not all that interested in the game after figuring out how it worked, so I've had the box sitting in a back corner somewhere. I realized the other day that although the miniatures inside are not exactly high quality plastic, the human (and terracotta) figures are accurate and detailed enough to work as a preliminary set of troops while I figure out if I want to take the plunge into a real ancients miniatures game. Mind you, by "realistic" I am not including things like the pre-painted Roman General who's wearing some form of full plate...
Now I just need to figure out which Ancients game might interest me, and if anyone in my area is playing...

AS for C&C, I have all the expansions to date and would recommend the Barbarbian (exp2) on and Epic as the best. But all are worth getting if you are into the game. google the C&C website as well as there are countless new scenarios and tweaks to the rules.
As for getting into Ancients wargaming, I would recommend going to the Plastic Soldier Review site and browse the Ancients section to see something you like and these figures are relatively cheap. Warlord games minis are more expensive but of better quality.
As for rules check out Freewargamerules top begin with or possibly the simple rules on the Armchair General site to see if you like the period

Playing Ancients covers a lot of ground. You'll need to figure out which game, scale and figures to use. I play Hail Caesar & Warhammer Ancients in 28mm using figures from Warlord, Wargames Factory, Gorgon, Gripping Beast, Crusader, Magister, Artizan & others.

Sadly, expansions 2 and 3 are currently out of print. GMT is planning on combining them into a single product when they do the next reprint. It's currently on P500. The extra game board has been removed from the combined package and will need to be purchased seperately.
I did manage to find a copy of Expansion 1, which is also out of print, at my local store and picked it up.
4 (Imperial Rome) and 5 (Epic Mk. II) are still being sold, and 6 (Sparta) was just released.

I'm starting to look into WAB as a league is forming here in Texas, Looking at Saxons + Vikings at 2800pts and no later than 1200 A.D. so I'm going to be painting something like 300 models.
Do you have an online resource for models or army lists?
I'm using models from Wargames Factory:
