Just learned that blizzcon will not be happening this year. Blizzard apparently said they wanted to focus all their attention on finishing Diablo 3, and the SC2 and WoW expansion.... weird.

Well, WoW has been hemorrhaging accounts lately (no I'm not saying it's dying). On the order of > 1million lost last quarter. It may be that they are trying to revitalize their games instead of doing a convention.

Would be the smarter move in my opinion. MMOs are nice but the end game content can get stale quickly without a decent amount of fresh additions.

That and WoW feels sort of static compared to some of the others out.

I don't mind if this is accurate, although I'd be surprised as it'll be the first time in what, six years?

My guess would be they put a lot of time into Blizzcon and they are adding up the numbers, figuring they need the time to finish Pandaria to release it this year.

On a side note I'll miss my Blizzcon pet if true, I've had the last three. Ever since they introduced the digital ticket.

edit - seems Aura knew two days ago and didn't mention it.. heh.

It's legit. I think it's a goods sign, they need to put a little more work into the games and a little less fanfare. There is some stiff competition out there now. I still play WOW. I have tried pretty much every MMO that comes out and none seem as polished as WOW. There are some great games and ideas out there, but I keep going back to WOW. I really hope project Titan is good when it comes out next year though.

Especially since gaffes in the past have shown that Blizzard doesn't really pay much attention to the fans anymore, so holding a convention for them is kind of pointless.

Besides, its about damn time they finished Diablo III. That game has been pushed back as many times as that Duke Nuk'um game

That sucks, even though I'm not a WoW player (or player of any blizzard games come to think of it) I do enjoy gaming cons.

Think about it, if all there High-light games are coming out and they had nothing new to announce why would they host a Con'?

"The Imperium is nothing if not willing to go to any lengths necessary. So the Trekkies are zipping around at warp speed taking small chucks out of an nigh-on infinite amount of ships, with the Imperium being unable to strike back. feth it, says central command, and detonates every vortex warhead in the fleet, plunging the entire sector into the Warp. Enjoy tentacle-rape, Kirk, we know Sulu will." -Terminus

"This great fortress was a gift to the Blood Ravens from the legendary Imperial Fists. When asked about it Chapter Master Pugh was reported to say: "THEY TOOK WHAT!?""

Because they have money to throw at booth babes? Oh and snow cones, 'cause everyone loves snow cones. Really though you're right, there would be nothing there other than them talking about the new WoW expansion.

Because they enjoy doing it, I've watched the past three and the general buzz you get from the development staff is its a weekend for them to chill and reflect on the previous year, while having a gathering with hardcore fans of their products, announce new things, recieve lots of cheers and leave a positive buzz on the community. They put a fair bit of effort into hosting it as well, a good month timesink or preperation, so I can see in that sense why they've dropped it. They obviously don't have those weeks to spare this time.

The Q&A sessions are one of the key highlights actually, allowing fans and players to direct questions at the key people, somes times its just typical stock answers, but things have changed or come up because of Q&A sessions. So of them quite funny, like previous to the launch of Cata, a fan pointing out they had the wrong guy leading the Wildhammer Clan in Ironforge on the test servers. They also normally hold a couple of big esports events there for Starcraft and WoW Arena.

Although aye, new info is a key bonus for watching Blizzcon, although that generally is the same with any con.
