(First, I am not sure whether this has been put up earlier - however, the search function is apparently broken, so I cannot search for it)
Now then, I recently got my hands on a group of Shadow Spectres pretty cheap, but this grease they have on them makes them impossible to put together, and supposedly also to paint. Does anyone know of a particularly good way of removing this?

You should clean all models with soap and water before priming.

Ok, so it is just soap and water? Funny, I tried that but they remain kinda glossy and hard to glue...

I think there's something in the resin that's actually seeping out.
Try the following -
Get a sonic cleaner, eg like this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/CD-2800-Ultrasonic-Jewelry-Eyeglass-Cleaner/dp/B001DKDAVW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1327670064&sr=8-4
If that doesn't work, & this might sound drastic & people will poo-poo me but scrub with a brass wire or glass fibre brush.
This is great:
http://www.alwayshobbies.com/Tools-$4-Materials/Finishing-Products/Glass-Fibre-Pencil.ice
& you can get refills in brass & steel.
I've just had to use one on my Tunderbolt.
Trust me. I know it sounds radical and a bit over-the-top, but it works & won't destroy the detail on your models.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!! |

Warm soapy water, not too hot otherwise you might bend them. Also, scrub them gently with a toothbush to get it out the crevices,

Warm soapy water and an old, soft toothbrush is a must for any model preperation. Resin can be hard to glue, so if possible file the two surfaces or use greenstuff.
