Hello,

I am originally from Wisconsin but now reside in the Atlanta area. I am now 30 years old....wow that sounds so old to me. I began painting and playing 40k right around 1990. I have always played space marines, although I have spent a lot more time modeling and painting than actually playing 40k. I have not painted a gaming miniature since 1999. I have been wanting to get back into 40k and my best friend recently asked me if I was interested in starting a new army. I ordered AoBR that day. After messing around with the contents of the box, I have really found myself loving the new Ork models (I am still used to the old Orks). I think I will start with an Ork army. I love converting so Orks seem like a perfect fit, but still plan on building up a Space Marine force as well.

And what is with this HeroClix stuff? I went to Heroes Comics and Games in Newnan, Georgia, and found a shop dedicated to HeroClix????????? He basically bashed anything that you had to paint yourself and called 40K too expensive to get into. I find Gaming to be dirt cheap next to my other hobby, which is building custom motorcycles.

And could anyone please point me in the direction of a Plastruct or Evergreen supplier south of Atlanta. In Wisconsin, I had a choice of 3 shops within 15 minutes that carries styrene, but cannot locate anything within 30 miles of me.

Thanks

Welcome to Dakka. Always nice to see people returning to the hobby.

Try google searching model railroad shops, or slot car shops close to your area. I find more plastruct and evergreen there then I do in amy shop dedicated to tabletop wargames.

Yeah, Way way ahead of you. That is my point exactly. There are no decent hobby or train shops ANYWHERE near me. The closest is over an hour away. I have been looking for months. Hobbytown in Kennesaw (which is north of Atlanta) is the closest. We do have a Comic and Games shop right in town, but the owner believes that painting your own miniatures is a waste of time. I will probably end up ordering styrene online but styrene is one thing I like to look at before purchasing. If I have to go north of Atlanta all the time I will have to buy a car that gets better gas miliage.

Hey there, welcome to Dakka, if your looking for a good 40k group, our store has a gigantic gaming group. Sadly though, we are located in Marietta in North Atlanta, so still a bit of a drive, but if your free some weekend, we open til 11 so there's plenty of time or a game

Hey, welcome to GA! I'm also an old fart northern transplant down here, lol. Heroes used to have a burgeoning 40k scene but the manager there is very mecurial (to put it mildly) and ended up offending most of the customers over time so it died off in that store (along with pretty much anything outside of pokemon/yugioh/magic). Most of us moved on to Treefort Games in Fayetteville instead; it's a great store with a nice owner and lots of tables; they also have a good stock in the big name games so I'd definitely recommend checking it out. It's a bit of a drive from Newnan though sadly (around 20+ miles) so I only get up there once every couple of weeks. Sergeant Horse also has a great store but its an additional 25+ miles coming from the SW far burbs (which I assume you're in since you went to Heroes) but worth a drive nonetheless.
