I'm working on a new list for Lehr and struggling with balancing amounts of Armour and Platoon size... here is my 1st stab.

Lehr Mechanised Company.

1 x Grille H Platoon (2 Guns - Breakthrough Gun!)

This leaves 165points, I could upgrade 1 x Platoon upto 3 sections... I could also drop the TIGERS for 3 PANTHERS? This looks okay on paper but I loose the Tiger Aces, and we discussed this a few days ago on the forum.

The Grille H is vulnerable as it is 2 guns? Maybe I should drop this and opt for 3 x JAGDPANZER IV's to support the TIGERS and possible a PANZERSPAH `PUMA` section to stop infantry going for them?

Given the changes rumoured and revealed from V3 I would definitely recommend taking some FlaK and some Recon rather than either or.

Your combat platoons are very small. How does that work out for you?

I know thats the risk.....I need larger platoons ideally they are too fragile with just 2 sections. But what do I trade off? If I switch this then the things I definitely want to keep are the following.

I need an Armoured Unit , Artillery unit , Recon unit. Plus If I can get another Armour unit great. Any recommends?

This is 1750 and pretty much an all round list, I am just concerned about having too few armored vehicles on the field.

If I went for a Panzer Lehr List it would be highly dependant on the Panthers 7.5cm gun killing enemy armour with AT14:-

Do lehr have access to a heavy platoon? 2 8 cm mortars and 2-4 HMGs. I always take a heavy platoon as it adds smoke capability and additional firepower for the combat platoons.

Tigers and 88s seems like a lot of high AT kit. do you face a lot of enemy armour?

I usually go with a Pak 40 and StuG combination as you get a lot more (weaker) firepower for your points.

Yes they do, Heavy Platoon I have them modeled. I like the Tiger because people obsess about them, they never do anthing really except act as a bullet magnet keeping everything else free.

This is actually fairly heavy hitting, the more I look at it the more I like it. (wow that's alot of 251's!!!!)

My main worries are being Tank rushed, my infantry is good and have good AT but Sherman/T34 tank rush combined with pinning my Troops down can be problematic. The Pak 40's should stop this, as should the Jagpanzer IV's. The Flak36 is dual role AA and Heavy AT if the enemy fields IS or heavy armour.

Your latest is much better, but the panzerwerfers and heavy pl just seem a bit "meh" to me. Your heavy mortar pl should cover your template needs, and you've enough mech. MG fire for suppression.

The removal of these two pls would open up enough points for a SP AA Pl and a Puma Panzerspah Lehr Pl. That would leave an extra 40pts. maybe upgrade the Coy Cmdr and 2i/c and the two PG Pl Cmdrs to PF/ SMG teams.

The SP AA could take over for your heavy pl HMG (And of course providing mobile AA.). The Pumas will add a bit more extra AT, as well as give you a recce unit.

Just thoughts. Not sure what your favour or flavour is.

I like the Panzerwerfers for 2 reasons.

1, double the number in bombardments with extra crew (so 3 becomes 6!). This as well as smoke throwing!
2, the Stormtrooper move (e.g I can move and they lose the rocket trails!).

However, I am listening to your argument. I have never bothered with an SP AA platoon, are these any good against any other units? (e.g blasting infantry?) I find the Flak 36 is superb as a Tank killer, and can also shoot at passing aircraft.

I use them as mobile HMGs (Obviously with a lot stonger AT.) to supress troops that I wish to assault with my Panthers or Gepanzerte Panzergrenadiers.

They are also great in there primary roll, though I find there fire power rating is a bit blah against Soviet flying tanks.

And they can deal with most light armoured troop transports, half-tracks, etc...

Which ones though...10/2 or 7/2 the FP 4 on the 7/2 seems to have it although I get 3 x 10/2 for 120points. I think on balance the 10/2 will win on points value despite the 7/2 being better than the 10/2.

So no tanks, just 3 Tank Destroyers and bucket loads of AT infantry and Guns.

I run Quads (SS list.), but I've used the 7/2's with good results.

I don't think that an Infantry lists needs actually tanks, as I find the assault guns/ tanks hunters are just as good if not better.

I hunt IS-2s and massed T34/85 compaines, so I have grown very happy with my Panthers in both my 5. SS and 2. SS lists. StuG Gs are my second favorite choice.
