I am about to finish off a couple of FoW units and thought that rather than use Dulcote spray on them, I might put some matt varnish through my airbrush (don't worry it's an expendable one!).
I have a pots of Daler-Rowney Soluble varnish (glass and matt) and thought I would ask whether anyone has any experience using this or similar products?
They are quite viscous, so not the consistency you would think of for AB paint. So is some sort of thinning recommended or indeed are these suitable products?
All tips/advice greatly appreciated.

Eh, I'd suggest getting ahold of some Vallejo Satin, Matt, or Gloss varnish. I put that stuff through my airbrush undiluted, works great for me.

Yeah, I was kinda hoping to not buy anymore stuff for a while.
Really I wanted to know if anyone has used Daler-Rowney (or similar artists) products and knows they work in an airbrush rather than trail and error it myself.

I've used Galleria Matte Varnish and Windsor Newton Gloss and Matte through my airbrush, thinned with a little water. The WN is actually the best varnish I've tried so far for matte since I kept getting a greyish haze from my Vallejo varnishes. Specifically WInsor Newton Artist Acrylic Matte UV Varnish.

I have used the Liquitex matte and gloss. It goes much better through my .5mm tip. I dont even buy sprays anymore.

Yeah this was sort of what I was hoping for. The idea of adding water is what made me hesitate but if it works for Galleria and W&N then hopefully it will work with this stuff. A trial is in order me thinks.
Also did you find you had any additional cleaning to do?

It is indeed. I am slightly worried about getting a frosted finish by adding water (for some reason?).

Yeah, this is what I am hoping to achieve. I'm pretty sure my tips vary from 0.2 to 0.3mm so i'll have to experiment with thinning a bit.

Well they are acrylic varnishes so they are water soluble. I didn't have to do any special cleaning outside of my normal routine. Being they were thinned out I opted to do two or three thinned coats which is always better and was easy since they dried in seconds. I liked the WN gloss too because its not an insane obnoxious gloss but more like it falls between satin and Full gloss. I've gone through alot of different varnishes and so far its been my favorite.
