A lot of people go off on how the Slann is soo overpowered, and is going to get nerfed. But I don't think he is overpowered. I think it's more Lizardmen's compensation for not having war machines and such. What do you think?

Well it got nerfed before (anyone remember the sillyness that was generations?). But honestly I agree with you that a Slann is not OP, it is when the Slann becomes a anti magic nightmare who hides in 40+ strong temple guard units that I get a bad taste in my mouth

No, it's pretty over-powered, especially if you take 2...

I beat a 2 slann list at ardboyz last year. it was tought but final transmutation on fateweaver, pretty much did it. Get out of range and drop it.

Surfing the Tervigon Wave...on a baby.

Besides. You think the Slann is silly?

Look at Vampire Lords. Slap some magic levels on them, come to pretty much the same price but are armour wearing combat monsters with initiative silly.

Slann are just fine. A lot of folk don't realise how important a Slann is to a Lizardman army and how it very much tends to be eggs in one basket.

Now only a CSM player.

A Vamp can't ever match a Slaan in spellcasting, but he makes up for it in combat ability.

Double frog lists are becoming more and more common in competitive lists.

That's WAY too many Temple Guard. They're really not worth taking the first place, but if you really do want to take them, then 24 is fine.

This is where people need to get a lot more careful in their definitions, because ‘overpowered’ can mean a lot of different things.

Are they overpowered relative to their fluff? Well, not really, given Slann are meant to be the most powerful mages in the world.

Are they overpowered relative to their cost? Again, I’d argue not really, because anyone that puts a fully powered up Slann on the field is paying a hefty price for it, and basically making it the focus of his army.

So that leaves us with the issue of whether they’re overpowered because they represent so much damage potential, which becomes a question over whether any unit should represent so much of an army that the success or failure of that one unit more or less determines the outcome of the game. And that’s a tricky issue, because on the one hand it’d be a bit odd to complain about coming to play fantasy and being annoyed that really powerful mages play a large part in the game. But on the other hand, it isn’t just a powerful mage, but all kinds of ‘eggs in one basket’ approaches that frustrate most players (deathstar units are probably the most common complaint).

There is an issue there, because I think of the games I’ve enjoyed most, win or lose, and they’ve always contained a balance of units with a range of abilities, and I think of the games I’ve played with or against super unit armies, and while they’ve been okay, none rank among my most enjoyed games.

It’s just… I’m buggered if I know what can be done about it. The answer certainly isn’t to pick out Slann to complain about.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.

GW seem to be trying to bring books in line with the fluff, so I would assume if anything since the Slann are meant to be capable of almost anything magic wise they will be even better
