Got my hands on it early, man what an issue.
Loved the battle rep, the awesome photo spreads not to mention the history and evolution of the game itself. The Rogue Trader (reversed)cover took me back as well, I had an A3 version of it up on my bedroom wall way back in the day, and I remember me at the tender age of like eight or nine trying to render it in pencil, and failing miserably (the space marines looked more like the kia ora crows)
Anyway, other than the MASSIVE amount of war of the rings stuff (which I could take or leave…mainly leave) it’s been one of the better issues in a long time.
PS - great as it was, anyone else think it should have been more 40k than LOTR?

I dunno, I guess it's fairly hard as GW is both celebrating 25 years of 40k and new LOTR stuff. Probably why they had the flip-side thing going on I see nothing wrong with it.

Personally I think they should have held the 40K stuff for another month and had a 40K cover and much more on this anniversary. It seems they are taking 40K a bit for granted right now. For example when the new Necrons came out they go nothing like the coverage in terms of depth and weight of information that the Vampire Counts did last month. 40K batreps are usually tiddly 1500pts ones and WFB reps are much bigger forces. I would like to see bigger 40K reports. 40K model releases usually get a piccie and a paragraph of detail, fantasy get a whole page. Seems they think that 40K is selling well and does not need lots of lovely piccies and write-ups to popularise. Let's have some more please, it is the most popular of their games so should get a fairer share of the pie.
I understand that they need to revitalise the failing LoTR line and they have invested in the property rights and producing the models so they have to kick it back into gear. personally I think it is a losing proposition as it seems moribund to me and too late to restart it, but good luck to them. I just think the 40K anniversary demands its own issue. Makes you wonder what they are preparing to release in the near future.

The 25th anniversary is going on all year; Rogue Trader dropped in October if I recall correctly. Stay tuned, I'm pretty positive it'll get better. Glad to hear the 40k coverage is solid despite Gandalf on the cover.

Although some feel it may not make such sense (on the back page and upside down) I appreciate the fact that the Rogue Trader cover was printed without the White Dwarf banner, bar codes and all the other bylines covering it.
