Subject: So I have six drop pods...

Anointed Dark Priest of Chaos

I recently found out that my brother-in-law (a hardcore and self-described power gamer) plans to return to 40k after a four year hiatus, and not surprisingly he is building Necrons.
I had managed to come into six drop pods in recent months and had shelved them with no immediate plans for them.
I'm thinking now might be a good excuse to build some sort of drop army to battle the cheesecrons, but what flavor would make a competative drop pod army?
I want to build a non-vanilla force, and am unsure which chapter does drop pod heavy tactics best?
Blood Angels? Tbh I am leaning toward an army of bloodsuckers
Space Wolves?
Can Black Templars use dop pods? What about Grey Knights?
Thoughts on which codexes/chapters to consider for drop pod tactics would at least get me pointed in the right direction...

I'd recommend going with Codex: Space Marines.

As I stated I want to build a "non-vanilla" marine force.
I already have 3000+ points of Ultramarines at my disposal.
The idea is I want t0 build one of the marine forces that I havent played this edition ( BA, SW) and want to put the drop pod models to use with it since I have them already...

Salamanders: twin link melta/flamers make those sternguard combti weapons even better. Either get a 7th Drop pod or just play 5.

Drop Pods are pretty much what the space marine codex does better than the others.
I suppose a Crimson Fist list with Pedro Kantor is another option from Codex Space Marines, and unlike Vulkan it won't make you into a see of Cheese Clones.

Also littlenibbler Orks aren't about armour saves.
Orks are about having too many models on the table, and wasting the other guy's time with your movement phase.
Orks are about having the toughest units on the table.
Orks are about not caring about how many bodies are left in a long winding trail until the squad is down to less than a third its starting strength.
Orks are about rolling more dice then you can count without the aid of a calculator or a pen and paper.
Orks are about having totally fething insane characters tearing gak down like Doc Grotsnik, Ghazghkull or Snikrot.
Orks are about being too fething awesome to die...

Drop pods are kinda synonymous with space marines. Outside of that your pretty limited in choices. Blood angels, space wolves, dark angels. Maybe black templars. Drop pods are kool that's for sure, I like the deathatrike missles launcher. Sternguard with combi weapons breaking into strike squads upon arrival is nice, but that's vanilla. Ironclad dred is a pretty fierce thing to do as well. Once again, kinda vanilla. I think ba might be your best bet right now, outside of others. I don't know much about them, but I would like to drop a furioso dred myself. Just to eat those warriors and immortals. Drop 3 dreds first turn? That would scare the heck out of me. I like to castle up and gunline. Ouchie for my playstyle. Hope people don't use that vs me.

I'd love to go for a 6 dread MOTF list if I had 6 drop-pods.

IIRC, space wolves have an IC option that lets some of them assualt from a drop pod. SW in general are good vs new necrons. If you like dreadnoughts, vanilla codex (not necessarily ultramarines) MotF or BA Death Company are both fun.
edit: my vanilla SM list usualy runs 5 drop pods. 3 Dreadnoughts 1st turn, 2 empties bought for Thunderfire cannons drop later.
