Subject: Relic Blades?

Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

So after reading the rules in the SM codex about relic blades around a dozen times now Im still not sure if I am taking the description too literally or if I am misinterpreting it. It says that relic blades are massive two handed swords or axes bla bla bla.. Then in the rules section it says that a unit with a relic blade does not gain the bonus from wielding an additional hand weapon on close combat due to its size and weight... But if its a two handed weapon there is no way of wielding a second weapon anyway, right? So What I am asking is if the relic blade is a two handed weapon or not? Am I able to equip the wielder with a storm shield along with the blade as it is not a weapon?
Thanks.

I think it's the same deal with a Thunder Hammer, you can take the storm shield with it. But dang, Relic Blade/ SS is pretty damn expensive xD

Yeah no doubt. Its more of a fluff thing than a effective play thing for my list so I dont mind the extra cost.

You can buy a Relic Blade and a Storm Shield. Check out this Discussion/Poll posted in Novemeber. It details the Relic Blade and its handedness: There is over a two thirds majority that agree's that it is a 2 handed weapon. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/407841.page

The FaQ did not really address if Relic Blades were 2 Handed or not. Thatguy91 wrote:So What I am asking is if the relic blade is a two handed weapon or not?
So this question is not "settled in the Marine FAQ" Just the following question: Thatguy91 wrote:Am I able to equip the wielder with a storm shield along with the blade as it is not a weapon? Note: Nothing prohibits you from having more than 2 one handed or 1 two handed CCW's you can have as many CCW's as you are allowed to take.

The whole "You may take up to one 2-Handed and one 1-Handed weapons per model" thing was a relic of 4th Edition, if I remember correctly. There are no such restrictions in 5th. I guess everyone realised they had scabbards and holsters all of a sudden.
Technically speaking, a Command Squad Biker is able to take a Lightning Claw, Meltagun and Storm Shield at the same time. While riding a bike. Work that one out.

Not to mention that a Storm Shield is not a weapon at all.

It really doesn't matter how many hands the Relic Blade has
You can't get an extra attack for wielding another CCW, and that's all you really need to know.
